...I'd purchased a couple when the old Trendcentre in West Granton were selling them off for 99p around 1981/2

First shirt sponsorship for a top-flight club but didn't realise they weren't worn after pre-season. Some things never change however, I am sure those on here that have complained about the washability of the modern day kit will relate to the stories told in the sixties and seventies section of this article...

Excellent article on the history of kits, well worth a read.

On a pedantic note the Hibs Bukta strip is too light a shade of green and seems to lack the textured material of the original. Bloody expensive too.

Do netters know if the Toffs strips wash well?

In 1977 Hibernian (http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Scottish_Football_League/Hibernian/hibernian.htm) became the first top-level UK club to wear shirts carrying sponsorship (by Bukta, the kit manufacturer). Derby County (http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Derby_County/Derby_County.htm) landed the first English deal with Saab in 1978 but the sponsored shirts were never worn after the pre-season photo shoot.

That bit refers only to Derby. Hibs wore the Bukta sponsor shirt for every match except those that were televised. Even then it worked a treat advertising wise, as the commentators would comment on why Hibs were playing in purple.

Ive got the 70s one had it for about four years, also got the meadow bank one, both in great nick I was worried about colour running but they don't. the green has faded a bit but nothing you wouldn't expect from something that's been washed over 100 times

Trendcentre, jeez I'd forgotten about that. I remember standing watching Harold Lloyd and Monkey in there on a Friday night in the TV department, pissed off I'd been dragged out to help with the shopping.
