Good. I had a fiver on United who were winning - sending off changed the game. Throw the book at him.

Noticed yesterday that he got a two match ban, one of which is suspended:

And then today the referees are unhappy about it:

I haven't seen the incident, but it does seem exceptionally lenient, whether compared to Bobby Thomson several years ago, or even similar conduct nowadays against another player.

Highlights of the incident are no longer available :(

Seems pretty lenient, less than Leigh Griffiths got for giving the finger to the famous 5 stand as one match is suspended.

Would have been dealt with differently in Rugby Union

May 4, 1996.

On that day Leicester's Neil Back pushed over referee Steve Lander at the end of the Pilkington Cup final against Bath at Twickenham.

Lander had awarded Bath a hotly disputed penalty try late on to give them a 16-15 victory and, at the final whistle, Back literally took the law into his own hands. For his action, the England flanker was banned for six months.

From the BBC

In 2005, Hearts winger Saul Mikoliunas was given an additional five-match ban (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/h/heart_of_midlothian/4349867.stm) on top of a three-game suspension for two red cards in a game against Rangers, having barged into assistant referee Andy Davis when disputing a penalty award.
The Lithuanian was charged with "exceptional misconduct", while Ciftci was found guilty of "excessive misconduct".

I'm sure you get a automatic 2 game ban for swearing at a match official

Why should a player get banned for longer for grabbing an official by the throat than what they would get for grabbing a player by the throat?

Surely it should be the same regardless?

refs should be banned for decisions that are rescinded, and players and managers should have an option to go to the sfa or whoever deals with refs and say I believe that desision abc are wrong first offence yellow cards for the ref second red card banned for their next booked game. as for this 16 game ban tsunami a joke like someone else said why should refs be any different to players how long did dicanio get for pushing the ref?

Referees should be treated differently because without referees there is no game.

He was banned for gesturing at rangers fans then the cowdenbeath incident then he flipped the bird at supporters in the ff a few weeks later v st Johnstone. Incredibly stupid of course once let alone 3 times but puts this punishment in perspective.

I agree with what you're saying, however it could be argued that without players there is no game

Considering I've more than once seen players clearly mouthing "**** off" or similar to refs, I doubt it.

Say what you want about referees, the treatment given to them on field by players is disgusting. Swearing/intimidating the ref should be an automatic red card imo.
