I personally find this a bit odd but seemed all the rage in Victorian times. Can you imagine if people still done this and dead people popping up on your facebook feed from time to time?
I suppose the family just wanted something to remember their relitives by.

Strange indeed, but then I found myself wondering what the Victorians would think of people in our age who post all manner of things on social media like Facebook and whatever ... I also find the fact that the Daily Mail is still around strange, but that's a different matter, I guess ...

The Victorians were a creepy bunch. Our modern day society are also a pretty strange lot as well. Just goes to show that times change but people don't!

I'm not sure I'd describe them as creepy, unless it was by today's standards. Death was far more an everyday occurrence, especially in childbirth and infancy, and a stroll around any Victorian churchyard will illustrate that perfectly. I think that this kind of activity was the norm then, or at least would have been viewed as normal.

I don't understand how anybody could take comfort from a photo of a loved one's corpse - especially that of a child. I find the photos in the article pretty upsetting, even 100+ years on.

Happened a lot in WWI. They'd crop a photo of a dead soldier into a current family snap, to show, I suppose, they were still part of the family, although sadly departed.

Suppose you have to remember how rare photos were...they well not have had any images to remember their loved ones by.
Just highlights how hard it is to judge past generations on today's norms.
