I would recommend this to fans who don't normally go to these games.
I think this is the best under 20s team I have seen in a long time. Several excellent prospects. I really like the look of young Cody Mulhall but there are plenty to be optimistic about.

Hearts had the best of the goalless first half. Stanton however missed arguably the best chance.A few meaty challenges from the Jambos too. McPake not involvef much but made a great covering challenge after Forster lost his man. Like the look of the Hibs 11. Second half abput to KO

Decent game with some good football. Hearts had the best of the first Half and bossed the first 20 mins or so of the second. Hibs then started to take control and got the breakthrough when Forster was fouled when heading the ball. Looked a bit soft to me but my mate who was closer and a Jambo seemed to think it was a Pen. Caldwell dispatched the Pen expertly. Stanton was then tripped on the edge of the box moving away from goal and although he never fell over the ref gave the pen. This was again very well taken by Caldwell. Hearts scored late goal after scramash in Hibs box following a good delivery from a free kick.

A few Hibs players booked. Caldwell and I think Forster too.

I thought the Hibs number 11 looked dangerous but very one footed. Stanton looked good at times as did our number 10. McPake didn't look anywhere near ready for a return to the first team but he did look like he was playing it safe. Note sure if it was a worthwhile excercise for him. Forster attacked the ball well most of the time but looked less comfortable, at times, than in the first Team last year. The first Hearts goal saw there Centre Forward, who had a good game, waltz past both Forster and McPake before blasting home. If I am honest there were more Hearts youngsters who played well than Hibs ones. In general it was a typical Derby match and they typically looked a bit hungrier than we did.

A pleasure to watch a game where tackles were flying in and players weren't rolling about all over the place. Pie and a Bovril just over two quid and better quality than ER. Pie Queue was huge and I got served in about 3 minutes due to it being properly staffed.

Reasonably even first half but Wee Hearts the tidier team and shaded it with them having 3 shots on target and us having 2 close but off target ones.
Second half only one team in it and we were dragged all over the place by a decent passing hearts side who maintained possession well while we lumped it forward all too often. Took half an hour before we actually got the ball down and passed...leading to a saved shot. It would have been steal to get a draw never mind win...but losing an injury time winner was criminal having got there. Don't think one player looked ready for first team (and yes I include the 4 who are) Caldwell did not win a single header that I saw, and Forster looked as rusty as McPake.

Last 10 minutes we actually managed 9 passes and a good shot and save before getting on the front foot more with pressure leading to the spot kicks. Ross took them well - but that was all that came off for him

Hearts had a few stand outs No.4 looked comfortable and strong as well as able to play (good set plays including corners from him as well) Tapping in the middle was at the centre of all their good play. No.9 while not big showed good ability on his own to hold up and bring others in as well as being pretty quick

A few thoughts from tonight's mini derby;

Really surprised at how quiet James McPake is on the pitch
The U20's play like the senior squad - direct and miss out the midfield
Jordan Forster looked solid
Jason Cummings looks like he could step up shortly and definitely is exciting to watch
We were sold Mullen when we should have gone for Sam Nicholson....best player on the pitch tonight!!
Sam Stanton needs to go to the gym or he will fall by the way side which is a shame as he clearly is talented

I thought the problem at the club was that the young lads play footie, while the first team play hoofie. Have they traded tactics, or were we just poor on the night?

If they get themselves out of administration they will be able to build from their youth quite effectively. Why does nothing truly bad ever happen to Hearts on a football field? Answers sent to Hibs youth development team....

Agree he was far too quiet
No they don't tonight was down to the 2 centre backs lumping it

Agree he has pace to burn

He is just back from injury and put himself about tonight

Decent game. I was on the terracing and there were probably more Hearts fans than Hibs' there, but not sure about elsewhere round the ground. I also thought that Cummings was our best player narrowly missing two good chances. Stanton also missed a great chance after Caldwell set him up. Hearing the teams, I thought we would win no probs but to be fair, Hearts youngsters played well and a draw was probably a fair result. They had a header which may or may not have crossed the line off the underside of the bar, and Dougie Horne had brilliant one handed save from a free kick. Having watched our under20s a fair bit this season, I would agree with James McDonagh that this wasn't our best performance. Still we are third, 3 points behind Hamilton who have played a game more. They are 13th.

Hearts have played a game or two fewer in the U20 league than most of the teams because of their difficulties in fielding a team.
