Suspected heart attack at the age of 73.
His peak was a little before my time but I went back and watched his Nixon interviews after watching the Frost/Nixon film with Michael Sheen and he was an uncompromising interviewer who did not yield until he got an answer!
Sad loss for British journalism.

"Hello, good evening, and welcome ..."
I remember him first from TW3. He had a tremendous group of very talented people working with him and was generous enough to give them space on the show to do their own thing and develop their own talents - Willie Rushton, lance Percival, Bernard levin, Millicent Martin, Roy Kinnear ...
Then there was The Frost Report which I think was the show that gave John Cleese, Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett their opening into TV.
It was very sharp satire and all down to Frost as the driving force and inspiration.
I have to say that the Frost/Nixon movie was nothing like as dramatic as the original interviews - you just don't get TV like that now - the spin doctors and party enforcers wouldn't let it happen.
Can you imagine Cameron or Obama speaking to anyone on TV with this seriousness? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkcZAB4_wd4
Whatever you think of Nixon, this was riveting TV, and Frost made it. Awesome.

Frost on Sunday with the Beatles performing what seemed like a 15 minute version of their new song, Hey Jude with everyone in the studio joining in (including Frost I think).....magic.
