View Full Version : Match Updates Manchester United vs Chelsea

Really looking forward to this tonight on SS1 (8pm).

Man Utd with a very attacking lineup (Valencia, Welbeck, Rooney and RVP all start) and Chelsea not playing a recognised striker.

Could go either way - I fancy Chelsea to upset them but United are certainly going for it!

0-0 then? :greengrin

Spoilt for choice really tonight as Real Madrid vs Granada is on SS3 and Fiorentina get underway against Catania in Serie A on BT Sport

Good start by Chelsea with only shot on goal.

Rooney looking like he wants to impress Jose :greengrin

Half Time - Man Utd had the best of the first half but with only one clear cut chance, Chelsea came into it in the last five minutes.

Hope there is goals in the second half.

If so many Scottish folk didn't wax lyrical about the massively over rated EPL & backed the SPFL a bit more maybe we'd not be in as bad a situation...

Awful, awful game in an awful league

Still miles ahead of the SPFL, you have 2 good sides here cancelling each other out.

Both of them would absolutely thrash all SPL teams (probably including Celtic as well)

When you think Malmo thrashed us but were thrashed themselves by Swansea who have lost their first 2 games in the EPL (losing 4-1) to Man Utd.

Scottish football is miles behind the level of Man Utd & Chelsea, unfortunately.

Is that the way to look at it though? That's like saying, Celtic beat Barca, then we beat Celtic.. So we're better than Barca?

Of course they'd thrash every SPFL side, they have basically a blank cheque to spend on transfers and wages...

Considering that it's dull as **** with both teams looking more interested in not getting beat rather than winning...

Setting up to the strengths of horrible lumps of physicality on both sides, instead of trying to utilise the technically talented players...

Boring

I gave up and turned it off after watching Fernando Torres run around for 10 minutes trying to continue his charade of being a professional footballer.

The Fiortentina vs Catania game has been end to end with both teams trying to find a winner by comparison.

Personally I think Oscar/Hazard/Lampard/Zaha/Young/Mata would all struggle to get a game with Hibs if they were on the payroll.

Sorry Judas, but this is a big game and you would expect a stalemate type of game between the two teams playing just now are probably the ones who will be fighting it out to win the EPL.

Also don't agree that the EPL is an awful league, but ours certainly isn't anything to write home about that's for sure.

I know what you mean but it does give an indication of the gulf in class.

Swansea made a team who beat us 9-0 (over 2 legs) look ordinary, I know you can't always measure it like that but that obviously shows a huge gap in ability between Scottish & English top league clubs, take Celtic out our league and we're probably on par with League 1 down south.

The gulf between the EPL and SPL is probably the biggest it's ever been, mainly due to Sky, who I was told have a higher % of customers per head in Scotland than the rest of the UK but fail to invest in Scottish football proportionately, but that's another argument.

That pretty much backs up what Judas was saying then.
I don't think he was making a direct comparison, but was suggesting we might back our own game a bit better.

And he is right.

Thecat23
26-08-2013, 09:53 PM
The problem with modern day football, managers who have the so called "big jobs" in the game set out not to lose against teams who could well compete for the league. The 4-5-1 or the 4-3-2-1 system can be very defensive if that's how you want them set up. Flood the midfield and make sure they support the back four, hope you striker or in some cases now attacking midfielder holds the ball and that allows your wide midfielders to then move up.

The pressure and build up from Sky and media makes it almost impossible for managers to really go have a right go in big games for fear of losing. This game will be forgot quickly, but had Man U lost, it would be pressure already on Moyes. Same for Mourinho. Managers don't want pressure put on them early doors. They are happy to come out these games undefeated and then batter the smaller teams and get the goal difference up. You will get the odd game were it has a few goals but the standard of players on show now it will be more rare.

Boring game, Mourinho proves how anti-football his tactics are and Moyes displays why he is not a big game manager. Watching paint dry whilst listening to Coldplay would be more exciting than that poor excuse for a football game. At least in the Scottish Premiership you get excitement in a large majority of the matches rather than watching teams too scared to lose.
