R.I.P. Gerry, great goalscorer for Hibs, brother of the legendary Joe and USA internationalist, I think? With Joe and Lawrie Reilly with the angels high above, the Hibs Heaven line up won't want for goals.

Sad. A great servant to Hibs who I know was highly thought of by all who saw him play. RIP.

Another sad loss to the Hibernian family. Time marches on and it's difficult to believe that Gerry was 75.

RIp Gerry - it was a privilege to see you play.

RIP Gerry. Maybe you will at long last now play alongside Joe in the same team. I was fortunate and privileged to see both of you grace the Hibs strip.

Obviously far too young to have seen him play, but always sad to hear a fellow Hibee (player or fan) passing.

Remember Gerry scoring in one of my first away games at Love St. He actually scored 10 goals for St Mirren in a cup tie beating Joe's 9 against Peebles Rovers.
RIP Gerry.

Yes, against Glasgow Uni I believe. Joe was desperate to beat his record vs Peebles but IIRC didn't score in the last 25 mins or so. 2 great players & great guys, just a shame they never got to play for Scotland.

I had the pleasure of being in his company at Motherwell hospitality last year. Still had a strong and genuine affection for Hibs. What struck me most about him was just how decent a human being he seemed to be. RIP Gerry.

Was also privileged to be able to spend some time with him a couple of years ago watching Hibs and having a few drinks after the game. RIP Gerry.

So sorry to hear this news about Gerry - another good servant to Hibs gone.
Still have a picture in my mind of Gerry being fouled by Ian Ure on a pouring wet day at ER (wi' no cover for the fans) and not getting a free kick - cue for Gerry to pick up a handful of mud and launch it into the big Dundee man's face.
For this and other memories - thanks Gerry.
Gone to join his wee brother, Joe.
RIP both.

Transferred from Man City to Hibernian for £18,000 in November 1961. Over the next two years, Baker scored 43 goals in 84 games for Hibs before moving to Ipswich Town in December 1963.
He had seven caps for USA from which he got his leg pulled regularly !!
I believe he ended his working days at the Jaguar car plant in Coventry
Nice guy to speak to but if truth be known he was first and foremost a St Mirren fan and I believe he was inducted into the St. Mirren Hall of Fame in May 2007.

Anyone know if that is correct ?

RIP

All correct. Some confusion about transfer fee. Some reports suggest we paid £25k.

Also Gerry was signed by Chairman Harry Swan when we were between managers. Hugh Shaw had resigned and we were looking at Jock Stein or Bobby Brown. 2weeks after Gerry made his debut, Walter Galbraith got the job.

Gerry always suffered at Easter Road despite his good scoring record because he wasn't Joe.

I really don't think that's a path we should follow in an RIP thread, ancient.

I can think of at least three responses, every one entirely inappropriate in the sad circumstances.

Watching Hibs for the first time in 1963, Gerry Baker was the star forward. Quick around the box. Replaced by Stan Vincent who was not so quick.

Remember Gerry well.

Probably stats won't hold this on up, but from what I recall Geryr' scoring at one endcoupled with Ronnie Simpson keeping them out at the other, made a big impact on whether we avoided relegation.
