Having some time in Wellington, New Zealand today...Had an absolute cracker 6.6 magnitude earlier today when at work on the 11th floor. All of us diving under our desks and then the entire city trying to get home 30 minutes later! I walked 5km and ended up in the boozer :greengrin

Just felt a 5.6 aftershock seconds before typing this post.

It's a scary feeling let me tell you.

Bloody fracking, causing quakes in NZ now

:hilarious Cheers SiMar - had a good laugh at that!

I felt one on the West coast of the USA once when we were hiking in the Redwoods but I'm pretty sure it would have been less than 4 on the RS.

They have been fracking here and there is concern about quakes though!

We've now had 430 earthquakes in 24 hours!

The ground started shaking where I was stood today. I witnessed first hand how a water tower lost all its contents in a torrential flash flood followed by an oil tanker exploding just meters away sending a ball of flames shooting 30 meters into the sky.

Thankfully we're not at that stage...yet!

Another 5.0 magnitude aftershock did wake me up last night though..

Sounds about right. The Pacific Ring gets something like 15,000-20,000 tremors per year (most of them minor/in unpopulated areas).

Indeed. Most of them not felt, but including that big 6.6, I've personally felt around 10 since Friday and maybe 20 in the last month. That's after feeling maybe 5 or so in almost 6 years!
