Am I right in thinking that St Johnstone don't have a Europa Cup game on Thursday?

If that's the case, I'm taking them to draw with Hearts @ 12/5. If they do have a game, they'll lose.

Partick will play above themselves, but won't have enough to overcome United, so another draw. 12/5

We're seriously depleted and Motherwell have strengthened so there's only one way that's going. 13/8

I also fancy Aberdeen to win at home to Killie @ evens.

If you want to be greedy, add Celtic to beat Ross County @ 2/7.

£10 gets you £780.

Easy, eh?

St Johnstone are away to Minsk in Thursday.

Not sure why you think Motherwell have strengthened?

Higdon, Ojaama, Law, Hateley and Humphries gone. McManus, Sutton, Vigurs and Lawson in. Latter 3 are certainly no better than what we've signed IMO.

Motherwell also in Europe this Thursday then.

As much as we are depleted on paper I expect a reaction from the players, whether that is enough to beat them I don't know. Won't be jumping on the 13/8 on offer. With the exception of the Celtic game the rest could easily end up draws.

Big big odds for Motherwell that I'm sorry to say

Sadly, I think that laying Hibs each week (and therefore having the other team and the draw running for you) will be the way to go this season.

We are as well making money whilst being miserable about our teams woes. Suspect that a lot of us did that last season (prior to the split) and made some decent money.

In Fenlon we distrust. :boo hoo:

I think Hearts will adopt a siege mentality and they'll do moderately well for the first part of the season, including beating us.

After that, their momentum will slow and they'll find themselves going backwards.

Given that St J's are on duty on Thursday, I'm even more certain they won't beat Hearts.

I hadn't realised that Motherwell were also in Europe on Thursday, so I'll review my prediction to a draw.

Their mentality will be offset by their (or should I say lack of) personnel.

They are a team of inexperienced young laddies and suffered 2 more injuries during their friendly yesterday against Liverpool.

Hearts might pick up a few points over the season but the team they have is terrible.

St Johnstone will beat them comfortably, Europe on Thursday or not.

Hope this year some of us can get a few decent returns.
Lets start now

Gefle v Malmo 6pm tonight.
I go for Malmo to score four or more at 15/2

We deserve to make some cash off them.
Good price.

Malmo now 2-0 down to Gefle who are 11th in the Swedish top league and have been on a run of 14 league games without a win.

Either Thursday took a lot out of Malmo or their not as good as we made them look.

Lesson to be learned here is Motherwell 6/4 next Sunday. My Hibernian-ess precluded me from backing Malmo and will do so again next Sunday. Todays result is a kick in the teeth for some who thought they were a wonder team.

Someone on another thread mentioned that Well have lost a few players but they also have McFadden and McManus - I'm definitely including them on a weekend accumulator.

I allowed my misplaced optimism to bet on Hibs v Malmo so looking to avoid that mistake again

I'm experimenting at the moment on Betfair with small accumulators of two or three games where you go for more than 0.5 goals. Works quite well if you pair a couple of games with another already 30 or 40 minutes gone and still at nil nil. Close to evens in odds and so far I'm up.

Well, it keeps me from thinking about Malmo...

Agree with this.

Reckon Hearts will be a far tougher proposition than some thonk early in the season.

When injuries and suspension kick in and the initial enthusiasm for the battle dies down is when they will be found out imo.

Best of luck to everyone who has had a wee punt but for me the first 3 or 4 weeks of the season are so much of a lottery that I stay away - same as the last few weeks.
It's always a chance game but at least when I've seen the teams form etc it's a more educated guess type chance game.
There will no doubt be a few surprise packages that will burst a load of coupons early on - hopefully we'll be one of them!

I think Hearts will have a good start to the season purely because they have not had the luxury of trying many different players in pre season. They will play the same 11 and system they have all pre season so should hit the ground running straight away. Its when injuries and suspensions happen that they will struggle. I wouldn't be surprised if they won their first 2 or 3 games. Obviously hope im talking pash though!

If that's the case, I'm taking them to draw with Hearts @ 12/5. If they do have a game, they'll lose.

Patrick will play above themselves, but won't have enough to overcome United, so another draw. 12/5

We're seriously depleted and Motherwell have strengthened so there's only one way that's going. 13/8

Does anyone do spreadbetting?
I have been reading up on it and was looking
at sporting index who have st mirren between 41 and 42.5 also hearts 43.5-45. My understanding of spreadbetting is that
if I lay on st mirren at £10/point and they finish the league on 33 points. I would make 8x£10 profit. But if they finish on 41,42,43 I would lose £10 and say they achieved 50 points I would lose 8x£10. Is this correct? Also looking back at past leagues the most points the saints have managed is 43 since promotion to the spl

This week's acca started on Wednesday night

Scotland +2 3/5
Partick Thistle to WIN tonight 13/10
Arsenal home win v Villa 2/5

Crystal Palace v Spurs - Away win 4/5 (seem quite good odds)
QPR to beat Ipswich at home 4/5
Leeds to beat Sheffield Wednesday 10/11
Chelsea to beat Hull 1/5

£13.65 returns £997.47

Also have

PTFC win
Arsenal win

Id agree spurs look tasty but with Bale a doubt and their pre season (to my memory) hasn't been great i've let it slip by. QPR should win but in usual fashion, either going a goal down or leaving it very late.

I've not had a bet yet, 2/2 on my coupons so far so tonight is study time.

Noticed Betvictor (new & existing customers) have a premier league special - place a treble (upto £25) and get a free treble next week to that stake. I can see Liverpool, Arsenal & Chelsea being popular (£25 stake returns £61) although I'm going to take out chelsea for Sunderland (£25 pays £117 i think!)

That's a good shout with Betvictor.

Spurs away to Palace is a tricky one. Even without Bale, Spurs have some great players, but their signings may take time to gel. IIRC, Holloway has a very good record on opening day fixtures.

If it's still alive as bet on Monday I'll be happy and if it wins I don't care. I didn't feel I know enough about the other games to make a call, although it could all be over by 6pm tonight.

I'm spending less on betting this season, although I know if this selection goes wrong before Saturday another acca will be forthcoming

As long as the other 5 win I'll be quids in. Only need 4 to break even (ish)

Tonight I'm going for the following:

Savedalens v Malmo - Swedish Cup - Malmo to win
Dinamo Zagreb v Austria Vienna - Dinamo to win
Steaua Bucharest v Legia Warsaw - Steaua to win
Athletico Madrid v Barcelona - Over 2.5 goals

£10 pays £45.27.

Also tempted by Formartine United v Elgin. Elgin are marginally favourites with most bookies but the home side won 2-0 against East Stirling in the last round and have won their last four on the trot. Elgin have been pumpted in their last three (including a 0-3 defeat by East Stirling on Saturday). Formartine are 2.8 to win in 90 minutes or 2.2 to win the tie. Was tempted to include this in my accumulator but didn't want to get greedy!
