Looks like Barca will be looking for a new coach as Tito Vilanova stepped down this afternoon after he received results of his latest tests, which confirmed his cancer relapse.

Wish him well, reports are that they may promote from within again assistant coach Rubi in the running to take over.

Could mean promotion for Billy Brown if Locke decides the time is right to move on to the job he was made for.

Sad, sad news. My heart goes out to his family and children. You can have nothing but be healthy, or you can be at the peak of your profession and don't have your health.......... sad, sad day.

AVB or Laudrup would be my guess.

You think the Barca fans will accept a former Real Madrid player as their manager ?

Laudrup was at Barca before he moved to Real Madrid.

Wish Villanova all the best with his treatment!!!!

Gerardo Martino or Rubi are most likely to be the next Barca manager.

Shame for Tito but giving himself the best possibility of recovery is obviously most important, wish him wrll.

So was Luis Figo - still didn't stop Barca fans throwing objects including a pigs head at him when he played for Real against them though did it ?

They are to announce a new manager next week but can't say anything yet as he "might" already be in charge of another team. Could see it being AVB...

A lot of bookies have stopped taking bets on it being Luis Enriqué now (despite his 5 years at Madrid!!)

Not the same in the slightest, 2 different players in different eras. That's why laudrup is linked with the job

So sad for Tito. Waited his time while assisting Pep and this horrendous illness has struck.

So none of the favourites got one of the biggest jobs in football as Barca have gone for Gerardo Martino the club said yesterday that they had hired 50-year-old Argentine Martino, a former Newell’s Old Boys coach in his native Rosario, on a two-year contract.

Lionel Messi is also from Rosario and the 26-year-old World Player of the Year, increasingly influential thanks to his phenomenal goalscoring record in recent years, reportedly had a hand in Martino’s appointment.
