As it says.

Can Vine play tonight. ?

Story in Herald says that Clancy and McGivern definitely out and Harris a serious doubt, though he does have a chance of playing.

Vine is eligible as far as I know, he's certainly been speaking to the press about the game.

Was a wee bit concerned that McGivern's injury is his knee, though I suppose it could just be a knock.

Front two of Taylor and Griffiths.

McManus replaces Mcgivern

Riordan replaces Harris.

Paddy McCourt replaces Clancy at RB

Fenlon is a useless tactician etc.

Did McGivern not twist his knee at the end of last season and then play on when it was clear he was struggling. ?

Yeah, he did. Fenlon didn't note any kind of concern about it at all, incidentally.

I forgot to mention that he didn't feel that Mullen was fit enough to play, but that sounded like a match fitness issue, rather than an injury. Be interesting to see who turns out at RB for us.

Has McGivern featured in any of our friendlies in pre season, hope it is just a knock. :agree:

It will be Mullen right back and Stevenson at left back, I'd assume.

edit, must read post above re Mullen and match fitness, hope he is fit enough but can Forster not play RB too.

Apparently he got injured during the Raith game last week. Hopefully completely unrelated to any previous injury and just me making something from nothing :greengrin

Can Forster play RB? We may need Stevenson at LB.

It wil be Stevenson at RB, Hanlon at LB and McPake/Forster down the spine.

What's wrong with Harris?

Pat Fenlon must contend with the loss of Ryan McGivern and Tim Clancy tonight when Hibernian take on Malmo in the first leg of their Europa League second round qualifying tie.

It was already understood that Clancy would miss the tie since the right-back underwent surgery on his groin earlier in the summer, but McGivern was confirmed as an absentee last night after failing to overcome the effects of a knee injury sustained in a friendly with Raith Rovers.

"We're a little bit short," said Fenlon. "Ryan is struggling with an injury, so he's definitely out, and Tim Clancy's out and Fraser Mullen is probably not fit enough to start the game. Alex Harris is struggling with an injury as well, although we'll give him a little chance, but it is what it is and we have to get on with it. We'll just concentrate on the boys that can play."

And the ones they are playing against. Hibs are considered to be in for a tough night against Malmo, although the Edinburgh side have been made well aware of just who they will be facing given the diligent work of video analyst Billy Bryson. Indeed, his efforts have been so exacting he has been distributing information to the Hibs squad well outside normal working hours.
"He feeds us so much information and he does a fantastic job," said James McPake, the Hibs defender. "He works all hours. My wife, Dawn, gives me a row for my phone beeping at 4am because of Billy's emails coming through to my phone. He emails stuff like strengths, weaknesses and set plays; all that kind of stuff. It is great preparation."

They were certainly found a way past Drogheda United in the last round, although Mick Cooke feels Hibs could spring a surprise. "Pat has brought in a bit more experience in Kevin Thomson and Rowan Vine, they are full-time and they have a good chance," said the Drogheda manager.

I would think Stevenson would be more likely to play LB. I've read a few folk on here state that Forster can play RB.

If that is the case with Mullen why has he been kicking his heels on the bench in the last couple of friendlies rather than playing for a decent amount of time to get his match fitness up?

Seems a strange excuse when PF has chosen to give him only a short time against Forest and no time against Raith.

He maybe just wanted his tried and trusted players match fit for Malmo. I think it would be a bit harsh to start Mullen at right back away at Malmo in his first competitive fixture .
