What sort of result do you think we will get tonight?

Hoping for a composed two nil win, but expecting the worst!

PF has said we have a number if injury worries at the back with McGivern looking like missing out with Mullen not match fit.

Back four of

Forster McPake Hanlon Lewis

Harris also a doubt with a thigh strain??

I'm feeling quite negative about this tie at the moment, as I'm not convinced we have a real 'team' yet.

What I mean by that is that there have been a number of changes since last season, including the obvious, Griffiths, and it's too early to say we have anything that approaches a decent squad that can play together as a unit. We need both further additions and time to gel.

It's still pre season, folk are unfit, injured, still in holiday mode, we will lose 2-0. I want Hibs to be up for it but I can't see it, every time we enter a tournament this early we do badly against any sort of organised side.

I hope Fenlon has had his team working extra hard, that he has given them a solid game plan, that the team is really up for it and that we put in a decent performance - I voted that I expect us to be beaten by more than 2 though - I'm hoping that we can keep it to 1-0 or 2-1 that would be an achievement and make for a great return leg - I'd take a win too though:greengrin

I dont think they wont be up for it, but everything is in Malmo's favour.

We dont have match fitness and havent played a competitive game in months, we are still in the process of assembling the squad, who overall arent particularly experienced in Europe (apart from KT really), and are playing a team who are flying in their own league. Even Drogheda were in a better position than us given that they were well into their domestic season.

I think we will get beat, but hopefully we can take it back to ER with something to play for (a 3-0 drubbing and its over).

2-0 to them if we play well and keep it tight. HFC is a holiday camp for unfit players these days and expect Malmo to be too experienced and professional for us. Expect a lesson in how to play Euro footie tonight.

Sorry but don't get the bit about HFC being a holiday camp for unfit players.

They'll be fit but maybe not match fit as the season hasn't started whereas theirs has.

I am positive we will score. But also think they will.

1-1 draw or 2-1 defeat for me.

I don't get this argument. It is not pre-season, it is the 1st game of the season. We should be fit and ready and certainly should be out of holiday mode. If we're not then it is miss-management. I do agree though that we have always struggled when we've played European games before the SPL starts, especially against Scandinavian teams.

Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon is facing an injury crisis ahead of the Europa League second qualifying round first leg against Malmo in Sweden, with Tim Clancy, Ryan McGivern and Fraser Mullen expected to be missing.

More evidence that we need another defender in and have done since the start of last season.

Any ideas why Pat hasn't bothered to address this in getting on for at least year? Budget issues may have had an impact but surely not for a year.

I like most others on here think we'll take a humping tonight as we're just not ready for the season yet. That is really quite annoying because we don't qualify that often these days and when we do usually get a team that's part way through their season. I've also taken Hibs at 8/1 to win because they seem to do it when least expected, so you never know.

Fenlon would rather sign a hoard of mediocre midfielders than address the main issues in the team - central defence and centre forwards who can knock in 15-20 goals a season.

Or maybe they've looked at Fenlon's record. And our "forwards". And the goals we lost because of Hanlon and McPake last season, who are both starting tonight again.

What has sesiom said that is so wrong? I disagree about the midfielders being mediocre as I actually think Fenlon has done a good job in getting a decent depth of midfielders into the squad not just this close season but over a year now. He has maybe neglected a wee bit on the creative side but he tried to address this with Cairney who is more direct than creative but did make an impact in the first half of last season and he also gave Wotherspoon one last chance who very much had a season of two halves.

Hopefully the emergence of Harris, the signing of Craig and a return to fitness and form of Cairney will see us with better creative options than this time 12 months ago.

In concentrating so much on midfield, he has ignored our defensive cover for well over a year now. We have been a centre half short in numerical terms for a while now and it is plain to see that by the sort of goals we lose we are crying out for someone to come in and dominate, organise and assure both the players and the fans. Fenlon appears to have, an attempt to sign a McManus aside, ignored this and failed to deliver. This definitely a flaw in his management.

Also, in losing Griffiths and Doyle we have lost 40 goals and our attempts to replace them have been poor thus far. Vine might be ok but there is nothing to suggest he wil get even 15 goals so we have started our competative season massively under strength in two key areas.

I remain unconvinced that our attempts to sign Griffiths were ever serious and that the joint statement by Wolves and Hibs a few weeks ago may just have been a mutuallly convenient PR excercise. This means that PF has known that Doyle was away since April and probably that LG was a non-starter since about the end of May. Plenty time to get a couple of strikers in.
