A rigged candidate selection in Falkirk... leads to Tom Watson being removed... Ed Milliband looking weak as the Unite union presses home it's price for having block voted him in as leader in the first place.

Can't believe this is the opposition to the Tories. Labour are all at sea when they should be making gains on a very unpopular Tory:LibDem government.

Ed's coat on a shoogly peg if he doesn't win this battle?

Im not sure it will play out in the referendum campaign but certainly it's a battle for the soul of the Labour Party and evidence of Unite taking advantage of a rotten borough like Falkirk, where a monkey in a red rosette would likely get voted in.

I am not so sure that this will have any bearing at all on how people vote in the referendum. Unless you think Salmond getting investigated for ignoring the 'purdah' during the recent Donside by-election is good news for the No campaign.
Just politicians being politicians as far as I am concerned. The machinations of party politics stink no matter which party you look at.

Labour have contacted the police regarding the Falkirk debacle, how do you think that will play out regarding the union and labour marraige.?

From a Scottish-wide perspective, what I find most interesting about this is the absolute silence coming from Johann Lamont. She is supposed to be the heid honcho of "Scottish Labour" but seems to have nothing to say/ is happy for MPs supposedly under her control such as Jim Murphy to make the comments. Strange that she has nothing to say to back up her junior colleague.

How so? Would this sort of thing not happen in an independent Scotland?

Actually.....

SNP vote rigging (http://www.scotsman.com/news/snp-rocked-by-suspected-vote-rigging-1-1367285)

Does Lamont's role extend to control of Westminster MPs? I didn't think it did.

Is the point not that the SNP appear to have dealt with the incident reported in that article in a quick, simple and pragmatic way, while Labour have bumbled around on Falkirk long enough for it to be allowed to become a national news story?

Isn't the Labour thing a story because Labour are dealing with it?

I can't answer whether it would happen in an independent Scotland, hopefully I can in a couple of years.
That link you put up : suspected vote rigging, not vote rigging.

The Labour story is being reported as 'allegations of irregularities'. Feel free to hide behind semantics though - I was just asking how it would be relevant to the referendum as you claimed.

Didn't realise that. There was a report on this on the radio this morning and they were speaking about how Miliband was the party leader and was wanting to be seen to exercise leadership. As Unite are asking for an independent inquiry and Miliband has refused, what would happen if Lamont supported an inquiry?

The only thing I will be hiding behind today is my couch when Murray plays. I said it more in hope than expectation, the hope that it may bring a few more voters to the SNP ,and in turn those voters may well be swayed to vote yes next year.

It's a story of this size because of the poor manner in which they appear to have dealt with it.

Had Labour had dealt with it in the same manner as the SNP, it wouldn't have become a national story and it's unlikely that the Police would have become involved.

I would fall off my perch if Lamont said anything of any consequence, let alone disagreed with her London bosses. Miliband probably doesn't know who she is, anyway!

Cops now involved. Unite's sense of entitlement is staggering and worrying. Still fully expect Labour to hold the seat in 2015...

Hmm... until October 2012, Scottish Labour's HQ was John Smith House, 145 West Regent Street, Glasgow. An HMFC share certificate to the netter who can guess what address UNITE's Scottish HQ is located...

No wonder Unite think they're entitled to pull the strings!

Why don't all the major parties get together and form a massive coalition?

They may as well. There's nothing to chose between them.
