Harris is 33, Caldwell is 29, Robertson is 28.

They could change of course!

I think Liam Craig was 10 at St. Johnstone so he may be after that, OTJ number 8?

Had a look at some old programmes last night. McGinley wore a whole host of numbers when he first signed in the late 80s but wore no 11 manily from around 89/90 until he left for Celtic in 93. What I had forgotten is in the late 80s when he first signed he seemed to play at the back, then had a wee spell up front before settling down to being a box to box midfielder.

When he came back from Celtic in late 94 Michael O'Neil had signed and was established wearing no 11 so McGinley started wearing no 4.

When O'Neil left in summer 96 McGinley started wearing 11 again and then seemed to always wear this shirt until he left in 2000.

McGinley played for Hibs for one season when squad numbers were around, 99/00 (his last). He wore no 11 then. Liked Pat McGinley - good player and perhaps not remembered as well by Scottish football fans as he shoiuld be.

What was interesting was how good our team looked on paper in the early to mid 90s. Certainly midfield to front:-

McAllister - McGinley - Jackson - O'Neil

Harper - Wright

Think he is alluding to the fact that Jones would perhaps have been a candidate for the no 8 shirt but as he has taken 17, 8 is still free and as it was Claros' number then this raises expectation it is being kept for him.

Got a feeling that either Claros or Thomson will be wearing number 8 for Hibs next season.

Hope numbers 7 and 9 are being kept for our new strikers!!!

Looks like it eh? Thought he would be after a comment made by someone on twitter. Know it is only a number and I do like what I have seen of AH so far, I always feel a player should earn a first 11 no and don't think he has done enough for it yet. Silly I know but it can put a bit of pressure on a young lad. Still massive vote of confidence in him from pat and hope he takes that in and continues to kick on.

Most of the younger players have an asterisk next to their name ("list B" players). I think that's because there is a numbers cap on older ("list A") players.

I think players under a certain age don't need to be register but I also think you need a minimum squad size which could explain it.

Doesn't explain why Forster isn't in but the likes of Gold (who I've never heard of) is but I suppose if it doesn't matter then they could've just done numbers for it :greengrin

You need a minimum squad size, under 21s can play if they've been trained for at least 3 years a the club.

Agree that it appears that way as if there was even a suggestion he might be coming back they might have held the number for him.

I think what it means is that, there is more chance of him not coming back but if he and Hibs were wiling and able to make the deal happen then I would like to think a number allocation would not scupper it. Even so, don't think the SPL need full clarifcation of numbers until the day before the first game so changes could be made.

Maybe Claros likes a number that was not previously available and is now and they are holding that one for him!

I'd like Claros back but not at the expensive of a good stiker and a centre half. We now have Thomson and OTJ along with Taiwo who can play a Claros type role so it may be that he is a luxury we can no longer afford.

I thought, if Claros was not having it, Thomson may have got 8 as he wore it here first time round and at Rangers and at Boro. Strange that he has remained in a number as high as 38. Unless he likes it for some reason.

Maybe Robertson just asked for the shirt and Fenlon said ok. Think 8 was Robertson's number at United.

Would like to see Robertson involved as, I think, on form he could be a good player for us.

I have a feeling Pat will play with one up front (sadly this looks increasingly like Vine who may be a good player but I don't see him being a good goal scorer) with maybe a couple supporting him from advanced midfield positions. An form Roberston could play this role well. Something like 4-2-3-1:-

Williams

Clancy - McPake - Hanlon - McGivern

Taiwo/OTJ - Thomson

Harris - Robertson - Craig

Vine

Id like us to keep Maybury, especially if Clancy is going to struggle with injuries this season. Hes nearly 35 and probably wont command much of a wage, so to have someone as experienced and versatile as him just for a year would be a good deal imo. Is he not keen on doing his coaching badges as well, so he could maybe be offered a player-coach deal?

Maybury played for the under20's in last night's game at Preston Athletic. He was wearing no5 but the team lined up with a back three and Maybury played on the right-hand side of the three. Looked very composed and fit. BTW the U20's won 1-0 with Sammy Stanton the outstanding player in the game. We also had a trialist keeper playing, he didn't have much to do so hard to judge him.
