Just seen interview with Fenlon on twitter saying he's hoping to have someone in the next day? Maybe that lad from Newcastle people have mentioned?

Also looking to strengthen in another area..

Dublin maybe:dunno:

is the mystery defender Alan Maybury,,,i notice on official squad list that he is not there,,,but can he play in CB role???

Thats good news!

I wonder what the other area of the squad they are looking at is? An attacker (winger or a no.10) with a bit of pace would be nice.

Got to hope its a winger with pace. Get Harris back on the left and Craig into the middle.

I have to say, whilst Id quite like Maybury to be given a new deal, Id be a bit worried if hes the signing that is making Fenlon "apprehensive until it is over the line".

If we only have room for one more defender at the moment it has to be a proper CB.

Still doesn't mean that we had the chance to get him at £150K.

You're right, but my understanding was that it was a price we could afford.

If he is still registered with Hearts he can sign for them if they exit administration is my reading of the SFA caveat.

His registration ended at the end of his contract. That's why they had to sign Wilson by the 30th June as that's when his loan deal expired, and when they would have had to release his registration (I think)

The contract would have ended, but registrations are a bit different. It's possible that would only change once he is registered elsewhere.

Are you sure? Wilson was returning to Liverpool so his registration expired, Webster doesn't have a club. Not doubting you but I am suspicious of the SFA even mentioning the fact that it doesn't apply to players currently registered with the club. Is it another Loophole?

Delighted with this signing and fits the centre half profile I like to a tee - tough, uncompromising, and no nonsense.

I've a mate who supports Norwich who, when he was at Kilmarnock, was 'shocked' that he'd never been picked up by a bigger side (no disrespect VanNish - he doesn't really know Scottish football that well).

He'll toughen up Paul Hanlon as well and won't allow shrinking violets in the side - good effort Pat and JN :aok:

7000 at Fir Park tonight according to the BBC.

How much would they make out of that, 140,000 at £20 a ticket. Charges off that would leave them say 100,000? Purely speculative, I have know idea. Would that not cover the cost of a trip abroad though? Seems like an excuse even rod wouldn't use??

St Johnstone said that they lost money on playing in Europe last season (played one tie against a Turkish club).

Papers last week said the cost of the Motherwell trip next week is £180K.

Thats mental, UEFA need to get that little gimp platini shot. Or sepp. Even in the prestigious tournaments your going to lose money unless your one of the bigger teams. They've managed to set up football so that the rich clubs get richer and the poor clubs stay poor. Even this financial fair play thing is set up so that the big clubs can still spend loads but not smaller clubs with decent investors.

Theoretically speaking:

25 first team players getting paid on average £1,500 a week (kids below that, presumably Williams, McPake, McGivern, Thomson, Robertson, Craig, Collins and Vine above that) would give Hibs a first team wage bill of £1.95m a year.

Total wage bill is what £4.2m in last year's accounts and needed to not rise because it was finally back to the recommended maximum of 60% wages to turnover ratio.

So the turnover would have to rise £900,000 on last year to avoid a loss and still keeping all costs level with the previous year.

I wonder how close that figure of £1.95m as a current first team wage bill is to reality and how much room is still in it, if it is at least semi accurate?

I believe the basics are circa £1500 per week but we are pretty good with bonuses for wins and appearance fees. A regular who plays in a Hibs team that wins could expect a top line of over £3000 per week.

Agreed. I know we have OTJ now but Thommo is only hear for a year and doesn't have the best of times with injury. Claros played around 30 games for us last seaosn and is a current full international and has just had a cracking tournament. Top signing if we get him. Better not waiting on things being 'seconded' before revealing the big scoop surely?? You run the risk of people thinking you're just regurgitating other people's info and lose the created aura of people thinking you have 'inside sources' (when not on the wind up of course).

Don't see why people are saying Thomson is a pointless signing if we get Claros. I think them 2 could be a brilliant partnership although taiwo for me is one of the first names on team sheet. Nothin wrong with quality and quantity especially if someone is under performing we have a great replacement coming in and makes competition for places very competitive so everyone will have to be on their game every week.

Claros has also been telling his teammates about Hibs and the Scottish league and how a great club Hibs are. I thought that was a nice touch. I fully expect Claros to be signed before the derby match.

I'd be so chuffed if we could get Claros on a permanent deal - what a coup it would be. However, we still need more creativity in midfield for guys like him to bounce off of. Claros is real quality and vitally important in keeping the team ticking over but we also need guys who can do damage in the final third - I'd be disappointed if we don't sign another attack-minded player before the end of the window.

Exactly.. Players like Claros adds huge quality and to turn our noses up at him would IMO be a huge mistake. We need a strong squad not just a strong starting 11. So with the midfielders we have at least there is competition for places which is only a good thing.

I loved Claros. He is head and shoulders above most of our midfielders.

I just don't think we need him unfortunately. If I could've picked I would have taken him over Thomson but hey ho.

I have no idea about our budget I just would rather we went for a winger/striker, preferably someone with pace and goal scoring threat.

Yes I would agree, I think we could have done without a few others as Claros would've been one of my first choices.

Is that bad planning by the management or just making sure we don't miss out on players?

Either way I still hope we sign somebody with pace and goal scoring ability.

Yep i appreciate that mate, but every team will be doing the same and looking at these players, mostly because their agents will be alerting ALL clubs to their players being available. My point is that i think that either swanson or mccourt would improve the team without taking the relative 'gamble' of an unknown player from foreign shores who will prob take time to settle etc.

Swanson manages about 15 games a season before picking up some unknown injury that the medical team at his previous clubs couldnt figure out (basically its in his head). I wouldnt go near him, we have enough players who cant stay fit as it is.

We've done the pace thing to death, AOB, Galbraith and sproule. Pace isn't everything. In those cases very little. Need someone like McCourt with some composure on the ball. IMO

yeah, I agree.

I'd rather have a winger with good agility and footwork, rather than one who can just run fast.

You're confusing pace with ***** ;-)

I'd like a fast winger that's good, they're out there we just need to find them.

The guy at Motherwell was excellent last season I thought, Humphreys is it? Realise he's away down south but it shows players like that are available.

I think he played when we beat them at Easter road last December/January. To be honest I think he's the type of player which would thrive at hibs. Go past a couple of players and have a dig. He's obviously got bags of ability judging by his goals. Celtic don't like players with natural abilities remember and I can't remember the last time Lennon played someone who likes tokeep the ball. Always a unit playing boring *****. I'm no expert but I think he'd be quality. For what it's worth I don't see it happening though, he's probably looking for a change of scenery.

Your mate's been used to McGeady, Hooper, Maloney, Samaras, Stokes and Commons - they've kept McCourt out the side and rightly so as they are top top players.

Have a wee swatch at this Eyrie and tell me you wouldn't get out your seat if Paddy was in a Hibs strip and collected the ball at the edge of the opposition box or on the byeline ?

If we got someone of the likes of McCourt (technical skill wise) I'd be laughing apples. These players are like Derek Riordan at his best, not in a game for 75 minutes but have that 'magic' that they can pluck from nowhere to change and win games. Frustrating but wonderful at the same time. You can't coach it - it's downright natural talent and ability that seems self taught.
