Anyone know when the fixtures are announced for next season? I think it's mid/late July but could be completely wrong... What would be your preferred opening game? Would love it to be Hearts at Tynie! Go there with a massive crowd and keep the unbeaten run going.

In season past is have hated hearts at home as our first game as I'd not have had confidence we were ready however between our early start thanks to Europe and the fact we retained the nuculeous of a team which I believe has potential to be successful it's a fixture I'd love to start the season with.

For all you guys without the internet, I just checked google.co.uk (its a well known search engine) and it says 19th June.
With the first game 3rd August, mid-late July was a poor guess.

I'm hoping for Dundee or Morton.

Cheerio now.

I'm going to be selfish and hope for an away game to start the season as I have a wedding to attend on the 3rd of August. hope we get Killie away as we have a decent record there.

These are three fixtures I want for the start of the new season.

Ross County (H)
Hearts (A)
Dundee United (H)

Wednesday 19th June. 9am.

Celtic at home.

No chance, Celtic's first game will be at home.

Champions always get first game at home, raising of the flag up the flagpole.

We will be at home against someone who had their first fixture at home last season.

That means Dundee Utd, Hearts, Killie, Ross County or St.Mirren.

Ill take Partick or St Mirren at home to start. Low key opening that would hopefully get us a win with the minimum of fuss. We need to start next season well or Fenlon's going to be under pressure by September/October.

I thought Celtics second game had to be a home game due to them playing Liverpool in a friendly on the 10th of August? Will they start the season with two homes game albeit one will obviously be postponed?

If Partick start at home as is customary will the police allow Thistle and Celtic to play at home on the same day?

That's what the SPL did last year. Celtic played Aberdeen at home in the first game, then were due to play Dundee United at home in the second game but it was postponed because of a friendly.

The only oddity there is the 2005/06 fixture, which should have been away. That might have been because Hearts were footering around with the PBS that summer? Around about then they took out a few rows at each end to make it UEFA compliant.

Cheers for that mate. Was doing my head in! So our record on opening days since season 04/05 is something like this:-

04/05 - L
05/06 - D
06/07 - D
07/08 - W
08/09 - L
09/10 - W
10/11 - W
11/12 - L
12/13 - L

So that is a total of 3 wins, 2 draws & 4 defeats.

Don't know why Celtic would need to be at home 2nd game of the season as whoever their due to be playing will be missing out one way or another.

As for the Thistle thing, celtic game will be on TV so will either be 12.30 on the Saturday or they'll play on the Sunday leaving Thistle the 3 o'clock slot on the Saturday.

Going by previous examples it doesn't always work like that. When we played Sunderland both rangers and celtic had friendly's that weekend and we weren't all down as the home team.

Surely if a team wants to postpone a game to play a friendly it would have to be one of their own home games, it wouldn't be fair on another team to havea home game moved

Why should any team be allowed to postpone a competitive league match so it can play a friendly? It's not fair on the other team to have to play a midweek fixture later in the season, whether at home or away. In this case the unfairness is increased by Septic's greater playing resources, meaning that they can rotate their squad to accommodate the rearranged league game in a way that their opponent can't.

If Septic, or anyone else, want a friendly during the season then they should have to arrange the date to avoid league fixtures.

I agree with all of that, it was the spl who made the rule a few years ago that a team could postpone a league game to play a friendly. Hibs took advantage of the rule to play sunderland. The point I was making was that if celtic wanted to postpone a game it would have to be a home game

It appears its because the SPL starts two weeks before the English Premier (and one before the rest) of English football. Its difficult for SPL teams to schedule in a Premier League team, as it would be out of sync with their preseason schedules.

Hibs pre season is compressed this year what with the Europa League. (Still have to figure out how I can get away for that one).

Maybe he wa right after all

One of the teams that were away first last year had to be away again this year, because Celtic and Thistle had to be home first (as champions). In theory, you were left with (out of the 11 surviving teams) six that played at home first last year and 5 away. Switch that around gives 5 home and 6 away, with Thistle giving the sixth home. But because Celtic won the league again, one of the teams "due" a home game has to play away again.

That imbalance didn't cause a problem in the past because if (say) Celtic won the league twice in a row, Rangers would start away in both of the following seasons.

Hearts announce intention to sell tickets for games within 48 hrs of fixtures announcement. Couple of days later 'SPL computer' hands them first three home games of Hibs, Aberdeen and Celtic.

Aye right, any notion fixtures are random is ridiculous.

Thing is Spike I don't think it helps Hearts financially.

Money raised from these 3 games go straight to the black hole.

If somebody takes over in say October then they don't have those fixtures to help them.

Correct. Dodgy as ****!

I'm sure the premiership fixtures are worked out. There was a prog on this week with a guy who plans all the fixtures. SPL will no doubt do the same.

They will get cuffed in every game anyway

Good start for us. All very winnable games up until the Celtic game on the 19th October, and even that is at home. :agree:

My guess is the administrator will sell these tickets as a block of three which will finance the administration through the summer.

Boxing day is a total farce that should be looked into. Making the players potentially have to go up there on Christmas night (or way early on 26th itself) is a bit harsh really. Obviously rubbish for the fans too and who knows what the weather could be like on the way there.

True but they could try having these games as near geographically as possible. How about this:

Boxing Day:
Ross County v Aberdeen
DU or St J v Inverness

New Year:
Inverness v Ross County
Aberdeen v DU or St J

Ross county/ Inverness

Would be better, making a team from Edinburgh travel all the way up there, on boxing day, or vice versa is not a very good way of organising games, but I suppose it is the Spl we're talking about

And the SFA wonder why attendance figures are so low, a decision that can only be for the County fans benefit, one of the bigger teams in Scotland coming to play over the festive period, but will there be any travelling support to speak of?

Is there a Maths genius on here that can work out the odds of this happening? Hibs, Aberdeen and Celtic are without doubt the three SPL teams that would draw the biggest crowds at the PBS. What are the chances of Hearts getting these exact 3 teams as their first 3 home fixtures?

Quick question.

After all the uncertainty about the yams actually being in the SPL why have the SFA put their name against other teams on the fixture list?

If memory serves me right when Rangers were in limbo they were billed as "team 12"

Have the SFA/SPL bottled it again with these cheats?

Rangers were already in Administration and, IIRC, were in the process of attempting to transfer their SPL membership to the NewCo. In fairness to the SPL, Hearts aren't even officially in Admin yet.

Crazy really.

Surely teams should play near to home on boxing day so Ross County v ICT, Aberdeen v Dundee Utd, Hibs v St Johnstone, Celtic v Partick, Killie v Motherwell and Hearts/club 12 v St Mirren.

No really huge travelling time, get a decent crowd in over the holiday season. Or we could send Hibs, one of the better travelling supports, 200 miles north on a day with no trains and when coach prices will be higher.

Aberdeen is just under 3 hours from Dingwall, Edinburgh is just over 3 hours from Dingwall. There's probably around 20mins difference in journey time.

someone has to play them unless they scheduled some sort of Highland Derby double header during that time. It suits me fine anyway!

Hearts away on the second game of the season - joke. Ross County away on Boxing Day - joke. And as well Inverness are away to Partick on Boxing Day too! What moron sits there and decided on these fixtures.

Boxing Day should be:

Partick vs Kilmarnock
Motherwell vs St Mirren
Hearts/Morton vs Celtic
Ross County vs Dundee United
St Johnstone vs Hibs
Inverness vs Aberdeen

Yes, but away to Ross County on Boxing Day

That's a bar steward.

I normally come up on Boxing Day to see the family have a few beers and watch the Hibs. No chance of that now. Literally the worst game I could have got. (Furthest, most likely to be cancelled, and takes buckin ages to get to).

Genuinely don't believe that Hearts will be playing in the SPFL next season, so may have to come up on the 1st for Hibs v Morton.

Fixtures couldn't have worked out any worse for me really. PETRIE!!!

Got a wedding 21st September, miss St Mirren at home. Got my godson's christening in Germany the weekend of the 19th/20th October so will miss Celtic at home, whether it is moved or not. I'm away a month over Christmas and January so knew I'd miss a home derby, but also missing Kilmarnock, St Mirren and Celtic home matches (even if Celtic is moved to the Sunday).

Before the season has started I can't make 6 of 17 announced fixtures and all the 'category A' games, no doubt I'll miss at least one cup game in January too.

Not ideal.

I'd be very surprised if it doesn't get moved, at least to an earlier kick off if not to the 2nd.

Can't make the game against Team 12 but will probably go to the first two home games (missing Leigh rugby vs Swinton and Nottingham Forest vs Bolton).

As much as I would love this happen, I can't see it. Unless it's discovered that the PBS is built on some ancient Pictish burial ground and somebody can come up with a spell to resurrect the zombie Hearts.

Even if there was no game, it would be a pleasant way to spend an afternoon, drinking champagne in the Gorgie area.

The Yams have us, Septic and Aberdeen at home in the first round of fixtures as they were away to all three in round one last year. They also only have five home games out of the first eleven matches.

And I'm not convinced that this start actually helps them - they'd have been better with home games against Dundee United and St Mirren to begin with because initially the Yams will turn out regardless of the opposition in an attempt to show support for their club. They could then play us, Septic and Aberdeen and have five very good attendances to start the season.

Instead they'll lose their first three home games and crowds will already be starting to dwindle when Dundee United and St Mirren arrive to collect three points.

So whats peoples take on our starting fixtures....

ANOTHER Sunday game to start.....:grr:

Them (if they exist / have a ground etc) away (certainly not buying a ticket to help their cash flow right now.....)

Then Dundee United at home - so couple of the teams we want to be competing with getting better of early on both at home...

That's due to European fixtures. Not much can be done about it, in fact it's actually quite sensible having us playing Motherwell as it prevents 2 other teams playing on a Sunday (assuming we get through).

Can anyone point me to the dates when the various rounds Scottish FA Cup and Scottish Football League will be played.

I work in London some of the time and go down Tuesday to Thursday for eight or nine times a year. I have some control over when I go down if I get in early enough with my requests. I also might have to travel to Oman at some stage.

I managed to miss the fourth and fifth rounds of the Scottish Cup last season. I would like to avoid that this time.

Last year we played our league cup game around 29th August, as we go in a round later this season, your dates above are probably about right. It's usually on the SPL website under news/key dates, but its not on yet!
