I suppose if Rangers can keep their name then Airdrie should be allowed to revert back to Airdrieonians. Whats good for the goose and all that

With all the recent changes however, and subsequent rulings, it paved the way for us to make the move and therefore we set the wheels in motion".

Says it all. Begs the question why precedent wasn't followed in The Rangers case.

Is it not a case of the former club / company having to fully complete the liquidation process, once that's done the name is an asset that can be bought?

Fiorentina bought back their name a few years ago, after reforming as Florentina Viola.

But then after Rangers basically ignoring all that and generally not even using their daft 'The Rangers' get out they may as well be allowed to use their original name too.

You could be right on that. The liquidation process took years and has only recently been completed, IIRC.

The liquidation took over 10 years to complete!

:agree:

Chairman Jim Ballantyne explained, "When the old company went into liquidation, it was in a different football environment and the use of the name was not possible at that time.

In other words, before they bent the rulebook backwards to get the New Huns in at all costs.

Are you serious? We all know that if Rangers were not treated as a special case and allowed to retain their identity and SPL status despite shirking a load of debt, the entire world would explode.

It's a farce. Airdrie are just a mini version of Rangers. Tubes.

Anyone who remembers their team of ex-Yam thugs in the early 90s will not want to see them return.

Indeed. Hammer throwers that produced the likes of Drew Busby. The only player they should have encouraged to be a thug was Jim Black. Instead they sold him to Hibs and sent his picture to Dixie Deans

Personally I never liked Airdrie or playing them but the town of Airdrie should be able to host a decent First Division side playing a mixture of Part time & Full Time players like Raith Rovers do.

So if them getting their name and crest back brings them closer to their local community and results in more people from Airdrie & Lanarkshire getting off their backsides on a Saturday and going to watch their local team then that's a good thing IMHO.

He's a balloon. His tear stained resignation from the ****** had me giggling for days.

Horrible little club - full of racist thugs both on and off the park.

Best thing that ever happened to them was going bust, hopefully something similar will happen again to them soon.

Weren't they all ex-Rangers fans who had been considered too intolerant? :greengrin

I didn't think we'd hear of Aidrieonians again. Wasn't Airdrie United a franchise set up to replace Clydebank in the SFL?

Correct  Original Airdrie achieved the rare combination of having fans that made hardcore huns seem ecumenical and a playing staff comprised of ex Jambo thugs and hammer throwers. Doddies dirty diamonds :grr:. Horrible town. Horrible club. Horrible fans.

They can change their name but they don't have old Airdrieonians history any more than sevco have old rangers' history

Will never forget an away day to airdrie after we got relegated to divi one...

im sure - They had a new stadium ( quite impressive at the time ) and we took Quite a large away support - if i remember rightly...

Anyway - one largish Hibee down near the front row - wasny quite happy at us winning the game and was shouting his effing all at someone or something - and his Wallies flew out and landed on the trackside..

This wee youngish security weegie burd had to go and pick up his false teeth and hand them back to the guy...

Priceless moments.. :greengrin
