There should be few goals in this, going for 4-2 Brazil.

Just kicked off on ITV :aok:

I think you're right about the goals. Brazil have been very poor last few months. Home crowd might help them, but fans' patience with the manager is wearing very thin indeed. Must win for him, friendly or not!

Not a very good crowd, I would have thought that such a game (e.g. opening of an iconic stadium) would have sold out.

Sitting out here on my decking in tropical Darwen, enjoying the peace and quiet as all the numpties are around their telly's believing they are the best team in the world and thinking this is a dress rehearsal for the world cup final! Might go in and watch the bbc when it gets a lite chilli after sundown !

Germany also playing a friendly tonight against the USA, they were 2-0 down after 17 minutes, missing the Bayern players however.

Klosse playing and he's one goal away from equalling Muller's record for the Germans.

Same way there was 149,000 in Hampden - bugger all safety and a very large upper tier (part of which collapsed in 1992 and led to reduction in capacity) unusual in such a bowl shape.

This rebuild is a real hotch potch and A-Typical of large infrastructure projects there - fraud / politics / poor organisation are par for the course

You're quite right about the fraud, politics and poor organisation. Thank goodness that sort of thing doesn't happen back home with large infrastructure projects such as, say, parliament buildings and trams and what not. :greengrin. A few colleagues of mine are at the game, so I'll see what they say about the stadium. Looks great on tv anyways.

Just as it reads. No funny stuff required. Maybe a tiny, tiny bit longer on the "ã" at the end, but only so it's not pronounced with the wrong emphasis, e.g "MaraKANA".

Good result and one in the eye for the English hacks who all sounded like they wanted their team to lose today. I suppose it's more fun for them if a new manager is appointed every time England get beaten. A better story.

Cheers.

That does leave one wondering, where did Chiles & co get their pronunciation from? You would expect commentators/pundits either to go for the 'obvious' ignorant Brit pronunciation, or to be accurately informed by a native speaker. Did they just make something up that sounded a bit more 'samba'?

The popular pronunciation by the commentators and media people seems to be "Mara-kinahh" whereas I would personally just say "Mara-cana" with no obvious emphasis on any part of the word. Not being Brazilian, I wouldn't know for certain what the correct way to say it would be.

Just my take on it.

Just the opposite if you have a look at the english papers. Theres a campaign to get rid of Hodgson being going on for months. Matt Dickinson in The Times has a column this morning desperate to give Woy no credit by banging on about Brazil being mediocre these days, which gave the impression of being written before last night and without having watched them play.

I thought Brazil were excellent last night and it will be the usual 'one of the big 5' (Germany Italy Spain Argentina or Brazil) in 2014.

I agree Neymar is a show pony and Fred is bang average. England if they had used the ball better could have scored a couple more on the break. The present German team would have IMO hammered Brazil on the break last night.

I watched last nights game with a couple of English lads, and both thought Brazil should have had the game sown up at Half time, but were upset they had not won it in the end.

Personally i thought it was a decent watch, but while the competition might well be in Brazil next year, i don't see Brazil winning it. Poor up front and a defence with more holes than a colander.

Brazil really are missing that player who holds it all together. dont rate Hulk that high but they are struggling for striking talent nowadays Brazil. still I expect them to be Semi finals.
