Seems to have been organised by the student union at Edinburgh Uni. A more pampered collection of middle and upper class communists you'll struggle to find.

The EUSA guy quoted in the BBC report, Max Crema, was a bawhair away from getting thrown out of office a month or two ago for generally being a bellend and trying to suppress free speech. No doubt, he'll end up an MP or union leader.

Looked to me like a bunch of people with nothing better to do with their time than to harrass someone who dares to have different opinions to themselves.

People like that are just incapable of having a calm and reasoned debate with others of an opposing viewpoint.

Basically they're right and everyone else is wrong.

No violence, no missiles thrown. I'm really not getting the outrage :dunno:

A politician worthy of the name would have used his/her supposed superior debating skills to take them on; why are you calling me ****? Isnt that a bt rude? What do you want? Might have been a good start. The ludicrous back n forwards to the pub didnt make him look good. In the end the demonstrators probably wandered off for a celebratory cider and black and pretended to themselves theyd just reenacted the battle of Cable St.

AFAIK Farage tried to engage them about why UKIP weren't racist or fascist but they were too busy shouting at him to "**** off back to England and stick the Union Jack up your arse" and pouring bottles of coke over the heads of randoms.

You're right though - the protesters had a self-congratulatory pint and plate of chips afterwards!

yeezus.

I have no sympathy for Farage, he is far too cocky for my liking and he made a fool of Herman van Rompuy so hell mend him :greengrin

This.:agree:

And nauseating to see this figurehead of golf-club, cardigan-wearing racism, and scourge of the "PC brigade" playing the race card at the first opportunity. Good riddance. Don't hurry back

Quite funny considering Farage hung up on a BBC Radio Scotland interviewer this morning when he was asked about about his policies.

Farage is an odious creature so it's hardly surprising he attracts that kind of attention.

As a point of interest, am I right in saying Farage is keen to control immigration into the UK? I ask because when I researched his surname I couldn't establish it as English so I'm guessing his forefathers were immigrants, as is his German wife

If it is calm and reasonable debate you are after; maybe best not to try and engage with Farage:

Their position is under review apparently but it seems their principles include freezing immigration (not immigrants ;)) for five years and then:

"Any future immigration for permanent settlement must be on a strictly limited and controlled basis where that can clearly be shown to benefit the British people as a whole and our economy. Immigrants would not be able to apply for public housing or benefits until they had paid tax for five years."

So they are not against immigration per se, they merely want to apply certain controls to it. Depending on the legislative circumstances in a territory, immigration can either improve or degrade the society and economy through the type of immigrants those circumstances attract.

If Farage was from another country and tried to immigrate then under his party's own rules he would n't be allowed entry!

Politics in this country has moved so far into the centre ground that a large minority of voters feel they have no one to represent them. People like farage are moving in with right wing policies and saying things that tory voters want to hear. I suspect that for the vast majority of the country immigration is not an issue but ukip are playing on peoples fears that there town or city is going to be swamped with romanian and bulgarian immigrants. I've always thought that the torys would win the next general election but the issue of europe seems to be tearing them apart yet again.

Haha I knew you'd be straight on this thread in defence of Farage. The guy is an arse, and his little outburst claiming that it was anti English Nats was pathetic.

No expert on politics, immigration etc...

But to get into Australia you had to have some sort of required skill, or have a company that will you to sponsor your employment (something like that). There was also the option to work for up to 2 years on a working holiday type. Seemed like a good idea to me.

As far as I can see, on this thread, not a single poster has defended Farage or UKIP.

According to the News Quiz, 'Farage' means 'vagina' in Malaysia.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the beginning to get to Australia all you had to be was convicted of a criminal offence.

Which accounts for why the Aussies are so good at cricket.

That is an improvement on their old system where you needed a criminal record!

:agree: I thought we were looking at a Conservative majority next time round but with a bit of luck the issue of Europe will tear the party and or coalition apart.

Some torys are completely obsessed with europe, they don't seem to care that it is undermining their leader or potentially losing them votes. Labour must be loving all this

:agree: I'm not sure if the public will let Labour off with not offering a referendum, obviously I agree with Ed Miliband that there are other more important issues that need addressing before our membership of the EU.
