I agree that your list of players leaving won't be a miss on the pitch but Maybury and Kuqi have both been attributed with adding more professionalism to the squad, that is still a work in progress and I wouldn't be too quick to lose that influence
Apparently Maybury has done a lot of work with the youths, Forster in particular. Perhaps he will stay on as a coach / player coach?

Yeah exactly what I would envisage, you have to imagine that is Kuqi's role too. Can't fill the club with coaches but the improvement of the younger players alongside these 'model' pros has been apparent

Keeping Thomson, Claros and Griffiths would be my main aim. Not going to happen, but I'd love to see this team line up for the start of next season.
Williams
Clancy Forster McGivern Stevenson
Harris Thomo Claros Craig
Griffiths Higdon
Clancy ain't been great since his injury, but if he got a good pre-season, I reckon he could get back to his form before he got injured.
Stevenson is another one I'll maybe get slated for, but he's always filled in well, and less prone to making mistakes than Hanlon / Mcpake. (Moving McGivern to left back to accommodate one of them).
Midfield and strikers would probably be the 2nd best in the league. However pretty unlikely we'll keep Claros and Thomson with the news of us signing TJ, and would be happy if we signed Sparky, never mind Higdon joining too. But I am a bit of an optimist.....

For whatever reason, Hibs have lacked quality in depth for years. Encouraging signs that some of home grown players will play a bigger role next season - and Craig should be a great edition - but there are still serious gaps to fill, most obviously up front.
If both Griffiths and Kuqi are gone we need two strikers minimum - with both at least good enough to be considered regular starters.
Would be gutted to lose Claros and Griffiths, the thought of watching the team without these two in it, is a sobering one.

Id be very surprised that, having lost two strikers, one who scored as many as Griffiths, we replace them with one player. Caldwell may feature more and more but he still looks so raw, Id say we need at least another 2 strikers in to have enough depth for a whole season.

No - I mean thats it. Expect Stanton, Donaldson, horribine to be in the squad next year. As i said they want a decent striker on loan. We are well covered in midfield (incl OTJ), defence is ok (assuming this full back signs), but we are short upfront. But there will be no money signings. WE HAVE NO MONEY! We have a controlled amount of debt, and that needs to come down over the next 5 years. So lets forget about signing this player and that player coz its not going to happen. Fingers crossed we'll only be playing 2 sitting midfielders, a playmaker (Taiwo) and a ball winner (Thomson), with a reserve for each (Ideally Claros, realistically Robertson, maybe even Stanton) and OWJ for Thomson.
Craig either playing no10 or out wide.
IMO Robertson, Deegan and Claros could all go if it meant we kept Thomson.

I also can't see how anyone, including Rod Petrie and Leigh Griffiths, can know yet what's going to happen with Leigh.
I do agree that we will be looking to cut back the player budget. I also believe that Pat Fenlon has confidence that one or two of our youngsters can make the step up. However, at the very least, I don't think we will start next season with only Caldwell and one new on-loan player as our strikers.
Bearing these things in mind and the doubt it casts on the view expressed by underscore - I'm out.

Qk qn......Would you take Kris Boyd?
I wouldn't.
There's the trivial aspect of him just being one of those faces you just can't mentally photoshop atop a Hibs jersey. My mind just rebels
at the idea of him playing for Hibs despite the fact I grudgingly rate him as a striker especially at SPL level.
The above reason is of course daft so I'll give you a serious reason too -
His biggest attribute by far is that he's a poacher and I'm not sure we're anywhere near a squad of players that could take advantage of that.
Once Paul Cairney slumped we seemed to have nobody who could beat a man, hit the byline and pull in a decent cross or slip a man through with
a cheeky pass.
Without anyone doing that for him Boyd - to me at least - is a bit of a passenger.
It also adds to the concern about Leigh Griffiths - if we don't re-sign him it's not just the matter of 28 goals scored.....it's the fact he makes most
of them himself.
Replacing him is probably closer to needing 25+ goals and 25+ assists and that's not far off four replacement players in our budget class (assuming we don't
unearth a gem).
That said - looking at Liam Craig's stats we may well have one of those four players in already.

Hibs lost close to £1m last year and the year before. It might be down a bit this year, with a marginal increase in attendances and fewer loan players, but it will still be a significant loss.
We simply can't carry on like that, so forget any notion of any fees being paid for players under contract elsewhere. An exception could be made for Griffiths, who has sell-on value but I can't see us matching the price Wolves ask for.
That said, we are in a stronger position that most of our domestic rivals and there will be hundreds of free agents out there.
If we cut 10, we need 5 new faces.
Craig, McGivern, OTJ - two strikers. A right-back would be nice as well.

Hibs are back in training very early, on Monday June 17th, and will have their first European tie on July 18th.
Because of this I would hope that Pat will try and have most of his transfer business done early to give us the best possible chance in making it through the Euro tie.
So surely early decisions will be made on Thomson & Claros and if we can get Leigh back before the Euro tie what a huge bonus that would be for players & fans. :agree:

A number of posters on the Hibs' rumours (I know, I know) site have said we're in for Liam Boyce (Northern Irish striker) who plays for Cliftonville, he has an amazing scoring record there and he is only 22. I think he has full international caps too despite playing for a semi-professional side most of his career.
I know there is a lot to pick at here, such as the less than reputable source and his nationality (:greengrin) but I have seen him mentioned a few times and from his records alone, it doesn't seem like a bad shout. :dunno:

One of those articles states: "Hibs then pulled the plug on a permanent move in January, leaving the youngster in limbo once again."
Was this really the case? I thought the fault lay more with Bolton for changing their conditions. Did we maybe try to get him on loan and then Bolton scuppered it by saying it was a permanent deal or nothing?
That was reported on here by "someone in the know"
Wotherspoon out Wylde in? Don't dislike Wotherspoon but after what, four years, if he can't nail down a place even in a Hibs Scottish cup final squad then I doubt he has much of a future with us.

Mcinnes was his Manager at Saints and he's been making noises about getting him to Pittodrie
Id like to think if they could afford him then hibs would be able sign him instead. He will probably end up down south.

Without having a knowledge of English reserve team football its hard to say, he never played that many games for the old Huns before moving.
Not a dig at poster I've quoted but too many people just assume that if a player's coming from down south he'll be better than we've got.
I blame sky sports and football manager

Definitely!
How many times have you seen him play and any idea why he couldn't get his game for a championship side?

Apparently Gregg Wylde has been released and is looking for a club in Scotland:

Sorry if already posted. :aok:
Get him signed up Mr Fenlon. Him on one wing and Harris on the other looks exciting!

Wotherspoon out Wylde in? Don't dislike Wotherspoon but after what, four years, if he can't nail down a place even in a Hibs Scottish cup final squad then I doubt he has much of a future with us.
Also looks like were after Liam Boyce from Clintonville

Seen him play a few times (at rangers) and he was good considering how young he was. Why couldnt he get a game for Bolton? I dont know, Coyle must have seen something he liked for him to sign him in the first place. He seems to be out of favour with Freedman, so maybe thats why. I don't know? There were better players than him in that position like Eagles and Petrov. Its sort of like Scott Robertson when he was at Blackpool, better players that played in his position which made it harder for him to get a game. Lets just wait and see what happens...

Martin Petrov and Chris Eagles were ahead of him in the pecking order. Difficult for him to retain a first team place. Would do a good job for us I would think.

A centre half, a wide right player and 2 centre forwards. Oh and a right back.
Couldnt agree more.

He has a year left on his contract: that means a transfer fee to be paid...
He's no coming.

We need a striker, forget Griffiths we cannot afford him.
When your house is on fire you don't ask for Dave the best fireman, you just get a ******* fireman. We badly need a striker and we have to get him in for the start of preseason.

Yes but you want a fireman who knows where the fire is.

One player I'd like to see Pat sign is Novikovas, just released from Hearts I believe. From what I've heard from Hearts fans he's very inconsistent but the current Hearts team is awful. I can't say I've seen him too often but the cup game against us especially he was extremely impressive.

Note - please excuse this long winded & probably sh*** excursion into fantasyland. I apologise in advance ;).
If you're gonna dream why not do the back line as well & potential variants & subs etc
Williams
Tom Hately McPake Hanlon McGivern
Wylde Jones Craig/Taiwo Harris
Boyce Griffith's
Cover for Williams in the form of Murdoch. Decent keeper & good character in the dressing room (apparently)
In defence Hately would be a great signing but probably unrealistic also would have Clancy for competition if he can stay fit who can also play CB (I think?). Basing all this on the hope the McPake rumours aren't true and he's back to full match fitness for next season. Paul Hanlon is improving every season. McGivern is decent & consistency and concentration will improve I feel. Do we have Callum Booth coming back? Good option to have after a good season with Livi he will have developed as a player! Jordan Forster & Donaldson should play a part at some point too.
Harris is still young and may go off the boil a bit if playing every game so Taiwo being a similar player to LC can slot in with LC moving to left mid. Still got Robertson who will come onto a game this season slotting into that midfield so we have options to change it about & keep the legs fresh. Can SR also play right mid? If not another winger or use Horribine as cover for GW. Stanton could be a good option to have as well and I'm sure would have a part to play at some point. Also Cairney (if at all fit) is a good player to have when on form.
Up front we have 1 deadly & proven goalscorer & a guy who should hopefully hit the ground running and get a few goals. Getting onto crosses with his head as well which is something we are missing at the minute. Big seasons needed from both Handling & Caldwell.
Overall a lot more bite. Bit more physical presence. Some very good football players as well so should see some decent football. Goals all the way through that team as well which we previously lacked. Claros would be a good addition but I'm pretty much resigned to losing him. Had a brainwave when I remembered Booth hopefully he gets another chance this season , did well at Livi. Maybury & Spoony both out. Lots of quality young players coming through which is surely a good sign!
Anyway... I'm now off to play football manager, for some reason I'm quite in the mood to start a new season & build a squad somewhere. Cannot think why.

At best the Griffiths transfer saga will be resolved in our favour by end of August. We therefore need two strikers prior to season starting to replace Doyle and Kuqi. Handling and Caldwell can provide competition but we must go into next season with two new stickers.

Don't agree. Think there is still a greater than 50/50 chance we'll get LG. In saying that, you got to wonder what Petrie and the Hibs Board are thinking/doing ?
How often does a team outwith the OF get a player who has won 3 FOTY Awards, scored 28 goals in a season and now in the Scotland squad almost plead to be signed up? This is a once in a generation opportunity, something Petrie and the Hibs Board have no right to expect - yet here it is. We've got to hope they are smart enough to sort it out. Jees, the Board basically threw away £300,000 plus trying to keep Calderwood who was arguably the worst employee Hibs have ever had. Now they have to find a similar amount (maybe a little more) to sign a player who we know will deliver, will increase crowds, will likely get better, and will likely be worth a lot of money in a few year's time. These two Board decisions could not be more stark or obvious. IMHO the Board have a duty to the club and fans find the money (one way or another) to sort this out - and I'm pretty confident they will.

:dunno:
Didn't see this on the thread about strikers being needed.
boyce is an oustanding player 36 goals this season head and shoulders above every one in irish league.would be a great signing if we can get him and the step up to spl wont faze him 1 bit.
