Novak Djokovic is out of this year's Madrid Masters after a shock three sets defeat to the unseeded Grigor Dimitrov, 7-6 6-7 6-3.

No such problems for Roger Federer or Andy Murray though as they beat Radek Stepanek and Florian Mayer, respectively, in straight sets.

Rafael Nadal plays later today against Benoit Paire.

Quick mention for Laura Robson in the women's event as well as she beat Agnieszka Radwanska on Monday in straight sets. That must go down as one of the biggest wins of her career.

Roger Federer is out of the Madrid Masters after a three sets defeat to Kei Nishikori.

With Novak Djokovic already out, it opens things up nicely for Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal.

They are in opposite sides of the draw so they could meet in the final and although Nadal's appearance in the final is fairly secure, if Murray is to get there he'll need to play Tomas Berdych and then potentially Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or Stanislas Wawrinka.

He plays Gilles Simon later on tonight.

Great match just finished between Tommy Haas and David Ferrer.

Haas was 4-2 up in the decider but Ferrer came through 7-5 4-6 6-4 in just over 2 hours.

He'll play Nadal next in the quarter finals!

Disaster. Broken. Simon playing well no sure Andy can win this one.

There's no chance he's winning this.

Doesn't even look remotely close to winning the match.

I've seen him recover from worse positions than this against better players. Problem is Simon is playing very well.

So have I but it's just the impression I'm getting from watching him.

He doesn't look like he has any energy or enough motivation to win this match tonight.

Simon has played quite well but that's not really saying too much as Murray has been so poor.

Think Simon has to get a bit more credit, terrible record against Andy and never let him settle.

Physically Andy looks better than the other day against Mayer, played in the sun. Cooler conditions suit him. Just has to get Simon running.

Could be a massive game for Murray there.

Breaking to get back to 2-2 in the second set after a 12 minute game.

Murray holds to go 3-2 up.

Looks a different player now.

Agree. Followed by a big hold there. Simon a bit more erratic now.

Love watching Andy. Exciting player to watch has all the shots. Hope the Brits know how good he is. More than holding his own in a period of golden tennis.

Love that cross-court forehand. 5-4. Game on.

Another huge hold there from Murray, coming back from 0-30 down.

Simon will now serve to stay in the set at 4-5.

Murray breaks again to take the second set 6-4.

It's into a decider.

It's like I'm watching a different player to the one that was playing 45 minutes ago.

Certainly upped his game, Simon still playing OK but Andy winning the big points now.

Maybe not quite as straightforward after all!

Murray 3-0 up in the decider.

Now 3-2 and back on serve! :bitchy:

He's just broken to go 4-3 up in the first set.

First set to Berdych, 7-6.

Murray immediately gave the break away and then had chances to break again at 4-4 but Berdych held on.

I didn't realise his clay record was so bad. Only one win against anyone in worlds top ten. Davydenko in 2009

Yeah it's terrible.

By my reckoning, he's played top ten players on a clay court on 13 occasions and only won once, as you've said already.

Also he's played 12 players who have been ranked higher than himself at the time of the match, on a clay court, and only won once as well.

Not good at all, which is a surprise considering all the training he did as a teenager on the clay courts of Barcelona.
