For those of a thrash metal persuasion, Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman (http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/metal-community-mourns-slayer-guitarist-jeff-hanneman-49-who-died-three-years-after-contracting-flesheating-disease-from-spider-bite-8602169.html) died yesterday.

49 years old.

Totally shocked.

Going to a festival in Germany in June with Slayer headlining. Was still hoping Jeff would make a recovery by then, didn't expect this.

RIP Jeff

I am totally gutted about this, I never usually let famous people dying effect me. Jeff was a hero of mine growing up. I was a terrible guitar player and a total metalhead in my youth. I would dream of playing guitar like Jeff or Kerry King. He wrote most of my favourite Slayer songs. When I heard about it on Friday I felt like I was kicked in the guts. I went to see them at Sonisphere a couple of years back and Jeff was missing from the line up then because of health problems, I would never have guessed it would end like this. I 1st saw Slayer back in 1989, they were immense and so loud I thought my ears were bleeding. Truly awesome!

With Jeff dead now and Dave Lombardo doing his own thing, I reckon this might be the end for Slayer now, King & Araya might continue but it won't be the same (Hanneman was the writing genius of Slayer). It's been a very sad weekend for me, but tbh I have been blasting my Favourite Slayer songs into my ears at full volume and I have really enjoyed revisiting my youth. Show no Mercy, Hall Awaits, Reign in Blood and South of Heavan have all been played in full at full:greengrin

Metal has lost a huge star. RIP Jeff, a true guitar hero :hibees
