I thought we had high hopes for him.
Noticed also that Grant was on the bench tonight instead of Murdoch

Surprised by that, always thought he looked good when I saw him.

Antell played for East Fife again at the weekend, where he has been on loan for some time.

Wonder if the club has decided then that Sean Murdoch's contract should be extended as back-up keeper to Williams next season?

I see it was young Grant (third choice keeper) on the bench this evening.

He was asked if it was his choice and he said no, shame really that he was never given a chance

Sean Murdoch tweeted yesterday that had broken a finger in training

Shame for the lad but it is just par for the course this time of year in terms of clubs showing young players the door.

Trouble for him is that a in a first team squad you only need three goalies. A no 1, a no 2 with a wee bit of experience and a no 3 who is usually a young lad making his way. Hence the reason why Antell has been on loan and Grant has remained at ER. No point in having the two of them about the place.

Not sure who is better prospect out of him and Grant? The coaching staff either see it as being Grant or perhaps it is simple in that Antell's contract was up and Grant's wasn't so he was the one that had to go.

In nearly 30 years of following hibs we have never brought through a goalkeeper that has managed to hold down a first team place and become a regular in the team for a few years, McNeil has been the only one to come close and he didn't last long. If I was a young keeper I would steer well clear of hibs

That's a worry, if Williams was to get injured

Personally, I would go for a player coach when it comes to goalkeeping and then have your established number one and two younger players.
I know that there are a lot of basic principles for goalkeeping, but I wonder how a coach that hasn't played properly for five or six seasons can pass on real time experience in a specialised position when they haven't maybe done it in anger themselves.

As in Andy McNeil ? We signed him from Southampton if I recall as an established young age group international

I always suspected Antell would get freed. Seen him a few times and goes down like a bag of feathers to shots low into the corner.

This. Williams should go out and buy himself a Cech scrum cap, if he gets injured we are done for.

He is probably being released as he just isn't good enough.

To say he hasn't been given a chance is rubbish, he has been playing each week for East Fife so if he was any good we would have heard about it.

From what I remember he is / was never off twitter, should have stuck in on the pitch rather than social media:wink:

How many young keepers come through clubs at an early age and become number 1 for years to come? It is pretty rare.

Agreed. This is just like the 'he was released because he was too small' argument. Would you prefer 'Sorry son you're just not good enough'.

From his Twitter stories he seem more interested in the social scene in Edinburgh than football.

May be another reason why he's getting released, Pat did say he wanted a more professional squad and we all know they problems were deep rooted at ER.
