Sad indeed, as is any death from the curse that is cancer. He is meeting it stoically and it would appear that the thought of death has created not a captive but a conqueror. Go Iain!

Don't often visit these pages, so a bit late with my commiserations.

Coincidentally going through his back catalogue of 'Culture' novels on audio books atm. Along with Ken Macleod, he has brought Scottish writers to the forefront of modern literature.

A giant of intelligent scifi who will be sorely missed. I'll be praying for a miracle
