Fair summary of our tactics these days. Get the ball, stall for f***ing ages , pass across the way, wait to let the other team get organised, then pass across the way again (mix it up a bit here by keeping the fans guessing if it'll go to a Hibs player or not)...hang on for a bit, pass across the way...wait....pass back....pass across....hoof. Repeat.

As far removed from the free flowing attacking football with flair from the Mowbray days as I am from having a waistline like Kate Moss.

Not too far away from the truth. It's about players though and with Deegan and Taiwo in midfield you are never going to get forward in a hurry. Doyle who looks like leaving is a genuine try hard player but not nearly good enough. I am amazed and disappointed in Fenlon's inability to recognise whether players are good enough or not.

We are a poor side and the league table does not lie (and don't forget this is a dreadfully sub standard SPL).

Bottom 6 is a failure - even the most ardent Fenton fans will admit that........surely?!?! If it wasn't for Dundee (courtesy of the rangers demise) we would be in a relegation fight once again.

All would be forgiven if we won the Scottish cup of course, but on current form Falkirk could beat us in the semi !

Another failure of a season ( summed up by our banner headline signing being Kuqi). :grr:

I have to agree. Our league form over the past 3 or 4 months has been relegation zone stuff. Some will say we have no devine right to be in the top six but continual failure is not really good enough.

Our midfield is not good enough! Harris and Thompson both looked great because they decided to drive with the ball. We need to play Harris in a free role because teams figure us out within minutes

The vast majority of midfielders at the club have been signed by Fenlon.

Matty i totally agree with you, i couldn't make it today due to work, but by the sounds of it, it was more of the same today. for a wee while now i have become increasingly tired of this brand of football, shirley the team can see when leigh is up against two 6ft defenders that hoofball isn't going to work, yes one out of ten attempts Leigh may get the break and turn the defender but its rare.

We lack any creativity right across the team at the moment and (this game aside, see above) players seem to be afraid to shoot from anywhere around the box, sems like we want to walk it into the net at times.
Route one seems to be Pats plan, and if it isn't why isn't he yelling at them to stop it?

Yep.

I am someone who is generally supportive of Pat Fenlon and I still think he needs a bit more time to build the team.

However our form over the past 3-4 months has been really disappointing and our slide down the table has been quite alarming. We're now 8th and have barely won a game since the end of last year and can't score goals either.

Fenlon has a huge job on his hands in the summer. Once again it's going to be another rebuilding job with so many first team players out of contract at the end of the season but next season is really going to be one where we need to see some real improvement in terms of our league position.

If, as seems likely, we finish in the bottom six that will be 3 years in a row that we have ended up there and for a club like Hibs, that is really not good enough.

A top six place should really be a foregone conclusion for a club the size of Hibs and we really have to be there next year.

Fair summary, Matty, but I think that part of the problem is lack of confidence. Too many players are scared to take on their man or make the quick pass. All signs of a bad run and maybe poor backing by the home support.

And I guess a lack of pace doesn't exactly help.

Thomson and Harris were the only positives today for me.

Good point, actually made that very point a few weeks back when discussing how we play (think it was the Monday after the Motherwell defeat).

:agree:

Or to shoot, there was a moment when Robertson got the ball in the penalty box and it seemed like he wanted to do anything but shoot!

I said it in another thread but all of our midfielders are the same. Claros/Deegan/Thomson/Taiwo all play the same way, no wonder we struggle to create chances when they all specialise in sideways/backwards passing and none of them have any attacking intent.

The ref and the linesman aren't the reason we have played gash for months.

Our attacking options are Griffiths and Doyle; thats it. Kuqi cannot get on the bench and we have no other strikers; how bad must he be? If Griffiths was to get a Fletcher like injury we'd be as well as just ending the season now. Our inability to add to our strike force in January plus the shocking inclusion of the diddy Kuqi is now showing in our bottom 6 league position.

I think we are uninspiring. Although Harris is a good kid he isn't any where near a match winner yet and if our experienced players can't get on the pitch before him, then that tells me something (about Pat Fenlon if nothing else). We beat Kilmarnock away in the cup and they aren't the worst SPL side and so you would think that we shoud be able to take Falkirk. However, going by yesterday I for one would not put a lot of money on Hibs to win the semi, in fact as we are likely to be a short price anyway I wouldn't take it. I wonder if he will play Harris in the semi, as he was as good as anyone in a Hibs jersey yesterday.

The minimum requirement to play hoof-ball is a a six-foot plus forward that is more wrestler that football player to fight and win the ball as it drops out of the sky. We don't have that sort of player. Just makes no sense to not even equip the team for bottom drawer football.
