Katidis denied he gave a Nazi salute. "I am not a fascist and would not have done it if I had known what it meant," Katidis said on his Twitter account.

The player said he was simply pointing at Michalis Pavlis in the stands to dedicate the goal to his team mate as he continues to fight health problems.

I'm sorry but that has to be one of the most piss poor excuses I've ever heard. I can't belive anybody could be that ignorant of history, especially somebody who's country was occupied for four years by the German and Italian fascist regimes.

In the photo there's clearly someone got there hand on his arm trying to pull his arm down, he knew exactly what he was doing.

Exactly, and he's not even looking in the direction he was supposedly "pointing". What a *****!

In support of Golden Dawn no doubt. It's an absolute tinder box over there with the economic collapse.

His - German - coach's excuse take the biscuit.

"He is a young kid who does not have any political ideas. He most likely saw such a salute on the Internet or somewhere else and did it without knowing what it means," he said.

"saw such a salute on the Internet or somewhere else" - aye, being done by someone wearing a Nazi uniform. Quite apart from that, I refuse - REFUSE - to believe that anyone, much less someone with Grandparents who were probably around when Greece was occupied by the Nazi's, doesn't know what that salute means.

Fanny, and I hope AEK do the right things and bin him.

****ing idiot and the excuse from the coach and the player is even more idiotic.

Up there with Rangers fans making 'red hand' salutes whilst waving Star of David flags.

Didn't Alan Shearer always do a Nazi salute when he scored?

The story only says the Greek FA have issued a ban from international teams in advance of any investigation and will ask the player to explain his actions. He may be a fascist and he may be a fanny but he should be innocent until proven guilty.

He came out and admitted he's a fascist, in the one party Mussolini/Franco sense, but the salute itself was co opted by the Nazi's from imperial Rome.

also known as the ballamy* salute and used by american schoolkids whe saluting the flag of the U.S. Funny thing is there is no historical evidence to prove it was ever used by the romans:confused:

Did you even look at the photo?

Hang on, maybe you're right, taking this principle a bit further, Adolf Hitler (Godwin's Law doesn't apply, this is already about Nazis  ) was never atually convicted of War Crimes, ergo he's innocent as well. :greengrin

Signed: A Commie.

Well if you're going to be a prick about it, he's not actually giving a fascist/nazi salute as his thumb is at right angles when it should be tight against his hand.

Do you have to be a mindreader to examine the evidence?

Anyway, you seem to know a LOT about Nazi salutes....

Actually, I've just realised that I was judging the photo at face value. What I should have kept in mind is that this is a Still Photo, only showing what he was doing at one point in time.

Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXdtUISSHuo), in fact, is the salute he was actually in the middle of performing :greengrin
