Aye, sad news. Childhood memories of his commentating, along with Motson, Barry Davies, Alan Parry, Brian Moore and the great, great Archibald McPherson.

RIP Tony.

Used to see him at the train station most morning's and is a true gent.
Kind o agree that he was a favourite.

Really sad to here. I remember him most for commentating on Sportsnight on the BBC. We rarely got English highlights on TV in the 80's but Sportsnight was the odd occasion we did. RIP

Decent commentator. Got the impression with a lot of the older guys that they were fans at heart.

I wish David Coleman had gone on with the football longer. I never heard the famous "one-nil" as it happened.

Spot on. Coleman was the best sports commentator of the lot. He really added to a game or a track event. The "one-nil" was a classic example of not saying more than was required. Let the action speak for itself. And never force your opinions on the viewer. We're not stupid.

Now your commentators are screaming brilliant, genius, wonderful etc at the slightest thing. Or giving their frequently biased and uninformed opinions.

You cannot be serious!

(There's one that's better, for a start.)

did Gubba ever commentate on a Hibs game? can't quite recall him doing so. The guy was a legend though.
RIP the wee ginger man.

That's bummed me out, Gubba was part of the 'golden generation' of sports journalists. A fine talent and a big miss.

Sleep well Tony.
