With Jamie Carragher anouncing his retirement yesterday, it's got me thinking about "one club players". Who was our last? I can't think of any in my time following Hibs, which would mean we must be looking at the 1970's for the last one. There's been a few who have left breifly and returned and a few who have left to see out the last year or two of their carreer at lower league teams but I can't think of any who have played all their days with us and retired whilst still on our books.

Lawrie Reilly springs to mind.

I think he had to give up at 27 through injury.

Longest serving player at the club - almost 8 years since he made his debut! No reason why he can't keep going on and doing what he is doing for many years to come

Sad to see Carragher leave, great player and a true gentleman.

Gerrard is very much a one club man too.

Was Gordon hunter with us till he retired? Saying that I don't know if he started his career with us as just before my time.

Think Geebsie placed briefly in Australia before retiring?

Geebsie moved to Canberra Cosmos after he left us then played a few clubs in Scotland including Hamilton and Dundee.

Reilly and Turnbull are correct.

One other was the exact same era, the other was quite a fair bit further back.

Did you know that Geebsie would have joined Rangers on S-Form if he hadn't broken his leg shortly before signing the contract?

I often wonder how that would have worked out.

The other 2 were Patrick Callaghan (1898 - 1914) and Bobby Combe (1946 - 1957).

Giggs, Scholes, Gary Neville...

I, for one, will never forget the goal we scored when Neville got the ball from Gottskalskon, passed it to Peter Guggi, who exchange a one-two with Scholes before freeing Giggs to cross for Stevie Crawford to volley home.

Those were the days...

Although Bobby Combe 'retired' in 1957 he went on to be a player/manager for Dumbarton and made a few appearances for them.

Also, what about James Main?

I wondered if Tommy Preston was one forgeting he had gone to St Mirren at the end of his career. When I looked it up it came out with this amazing sentence:-

He scored 4 goals in Hibs record away league victory against Airdrie on 24/10/59 as Hibs won 11-1. In that week Hibs scored 23 goals: Hibs 7 V Dunfermline 4; Hibs 5 V Bolton 2; Airdrie 1 V Hibs 11

Now that is what you call entertainment!

Gordon Rae would have been if Lexo had treated him with any respect.

I was thinking super Joe but he was at WBA before us wasn't he?

Not to mention Gottskalskon's overlap of Giggs to cross in for the second goal, he was some keeper.

Don't think he signed senior forms with them but went on to play for a couple of smaller Scottish clubs after he left us. A bit like Gordon Smith.

John Fraser played almost 200 games for us then was a coach under Shankly and Eddie Turnbull.he spent about 25 years at ER.

Hugh Howie played 139 times and was ever present in 51/52 title winning season.

Neither played elsewhere.

I think you're right about Howie but it looks like Fraser actually played a handful of games for Stenhousemuir before returning as a coach.
