Looks like there has been a major find in match fixing!

If I'm being honest this doesn't surprise me. It's been going on for years in Italy and it was only a matter of time before it got bigger especially with FIFA being corrupt to the core (If this has been posted elsewhere, feel free deleted)

As a fan of Italian football it annoys me massively when the usual anglo centric chat about the game in Serie A is that it is corrupt. Any logic would tell you that because football betting is a global business, any betting/corruption scandals will inevitably take place in ALL the major leagues. Including the English Premier.

I kind of hope its true, just to see the smug condescension wiped off the faces of the English sports hacks.

I watch my fair share of Italian football and over the last few years it's been on the recovery and is getting it's reputation back!

I find it hard to believe that with the money involved in English football that there hasn't been at least an attempt to bribe referees

I wonder when the BBC will run the CT theory as alleged by Hibs fans.

Where do you think all of Hearts money went? £86,000 per game isn't cheap

Doesn't actually mean the English team in question was at fault, it could be a referee or someone in the away team ?

The champions league format with lots of 'dead' games at the end of the group stages lends itself to match fixing as well.

The game I initially thought of was the Liverpool Besiktas game where they won 8-0 always seemed a ridiculous scoreline especially with Benayoun getting a hat trick and Babel 2 however the fixed game is in the last 3 or 4 years and that one was longer than that.

Completely agree I think this is where alot of the fixed games will be, one side throwing it.

They should start by looking at games involving Man United and Howard Webb,

Doubt it. It will be Johnny Forgeiners fault. Much like diving, shirt pulling and other offences not in the Corinthian (English) spirit.

Never underestimate the arrogance (or ability to re-write history) of the English media.

Just heard a guy being interviewed on Sky News who did some of the investigation - according to him, it's been found to be more prevalent at clubs where players get little or no wages :hmmm:

Hungarian club Debrecen have confirmed that their Champions League match against Liverpool in 2009 was part of a match-fixing investigation
