Hibs are unbeaten against Barcelona, was it not 4-4 and 4-3? Also was the Hibs come back not against Napoli and it was 4-1 in Naples and then 4-0 at Easter Road?

We got Roma and if away goals counted we would have got to the final. Instead it went to a play off game where we were hammered. Think Roma went on to win the cup that year.

Aye, that must bring back a lot of fond memories for a lot of Hibby's....

One of the best results in my lifetime was beating Videoton in Hungary 3-0.......Great performance, great trip......

the clue is in the 85-86 season

the same season Hibs only won 1 point off Hertz but that point laid the path to glory for Sir Albert of Kidd :greengrin

If you take the 7 0 game out without doubt the beating of Barcelona and Napoli were the best results in our post war history and I am pleased to say I was there at all three. I actually dreamt seeing the headline Hibs 5 Napoli 0 the night before the game and came down to breakfast and said to my father what a result last night (was still half asleep) 5 0 . He asked me what I was talking about and when the 5th. goal went in that night he turned to me and said I should be a fortune teller , unfortunately was the 1st. and last time it ever happened.

Also got to say that the match against Rot-weiss Essen was not only one of Hibs most important matches but one of the most important in Scotland and Britain as it was the first ever in European competition.

For me the best reult was beating Spoting Lisbon (who were hot favourites for the cup) 6-1 at home. I seem to remember the Evening News printing some of the reaction from Portugal and they couldn't believe that there team had been beaten.:aok:

This is a tough one to answer as there's been a number of wins that rank highly. I'm greedy and will pick two of them

1. Barcelona 4 Hibs 4 - we were 4-2 up late in the game and lost a couple of goals that saved the Barcelona blushes as they were as massive a club as they are today whilst Hibs had won only five of their eighteen league fixtures prior to the game at the Nou Camp. I wasn't there, sadly :greengrin

2. Hearts 0 Hibs 7 - I was there, it should've been ten and Jumbo Jim suffered the first of his many humiliations at the hands of Hibernian FC

Interesting afterthought on the Barcelona game . A couple of years ago went to the Nou Camp and did the tour but in the museum could not find any reference to that tie although it seemed there were flags , momentos from every match they played in date order but nothing from ER. VERY STRANGE.

I've also done that tour - probably about 15 years ago now, and I took a pic of the match programme for the Barca Hibs game as it was framed and hung in the museum with dozens from other games. The club must have had a clear out - wish they'd sent me that programme likes

This poster and the programme were on display in the museum when we were over about 10 years ago. I was surprised to see the amount of memorabillia relating to their Basketball team, almost as much as for the football team?

Hibs 2 Dunfermilne 0. 1991 Skol Cup Final.

That result was massive for the club.
