When I read it, I though it would be the "just one of the guys... doing my job.... honour to serve" kind of pap that gets trotted out. I was quite surprised at some of his comments (or, that the MOD gave the ok to publish them). In fact, I thought he came across as a bit of a d**k, to be honest. I'm not anti-monarchy, and have no general bad feelings towards them, but I think his attitude is questionable.

I don't see what he has said that is so bad.
And I'm a Republican.

Typical officer or should I say Tossifer, biggin him self up, he is the sort of bloke who would write him self up to get an award. I can't believe the MOD let him do an interview. Well done Harry, you got some rounds down, now **** off and leave it to the experts!

Why are they calling him Captain Wales when his surname's Hewitt?

I said the same thing myself, I know the interview at the end of his tour was part of the media agreement concerning the blackout of his exact whereabouts however some of the questions should have been swerved by him IMO. At least the MOD now know that the Apache training course can be replaced by a game on the Xbox or PS3. The next generation of Apache pilots are on standby in bedrooms all over the country. :greengrin

I liked how the tv channels have mostly watered down his complaints about the media.

In comparison to that looney in your clip, Harry comes across rather sane for a royal.

I'm more republican than monarchist, but good on him. He's not there driving an ambulance is he.

I don't see anything wrong with his comments. He's a soldier doing his job, he was interviewed and was honest and frank about it and told truths about the British media.

He didn't come across as arrogant IMHO.

He may be a loony in your opinion, however his rant is pretty much spot on.

I do think he's brave, having been there once he went out of way to make sure he got to go back. I don't think anyone can question his commitment to the Army.

Two things stood out for me, one was when asked (I don't exactly know how the question was worded) about whether he had killed anyone, he said, ""Yeah, so, lots of people have". I found that a bit arsey to be honest. Maybe it's because having spoken to a number of older soldiers (through my grandad's involvement with the British Legion), I have never come across any of them talking like that. In fact the ones who probably did kill were very, very reluctant to talk about it at all. One old boy, he's dead now, was in WW2 and I remember the Evening News were in doing a piece and spoke to him. When he was asked about killing the enemy, he said, "it's nothing to be proud of. I was doing my job, and the German soldiers were doing theirs". And that was all he would say. So maybe I am being unfair on Harry, judging him by another generation. But I was genuinely surprised at how flippant he was.

The other thing that I noticed is that seemed a bit bitter. Having his digs at the media (which is mostly fair doos TBH, the Vegas photo's carry on was ridiculous. You cannae get naked now without it being a 'romp'), about people looking at him in the cook house, about not being to go on patrol like he really wanted. He himself said he didn't want to appear"whinging" and "spoilt" but I think he did. I don't think it was his best interview. Although why the MOD thought it would be a good idea to grant interviews with someone doing 12 hour shifts in the desert, and who had just had the media rip him to shreds about playing strip billiards is beyond me.

Harry is alright.

People look into things too much and draw their own conclusions. He's only human.

What do you think he should have said about killing taliban? I thought his reply was an attempt to deflect away from himself, be it to avoid revelling in the fact or to avoid the discomfort that must come with topping someone, I don't know. That said, I have heard and read of plenty of WWII veterans who were more than happy to kill Germans, etc., on the basis of "they bloody well started it".

Regarding the bitterness towards the media, I imagine it would be hard take the media BS all these years and remain philosophical, not least when your own mother was killed while being chased by paparazzi. We should also cut him a bit of slack given that he still just a boy and doing his best to fulfil an interview commitment that it seems was the price of press silence and therefore integral to his being allowed to serve in Afghanistan.

100% :agree:

I have never liked the royal family, don't see the point in them. However I enjoyed that interview and Harry and P. Anne are about the only two I can stomach.
