Excellent. Following on the 'Deegan tackle' non-story, they'll be stoking up the old 'persecution complex'.

I never understood why Vlad wanted them in the first place, they were debt ridden with a crap stadium. If he'd stepped back they'd have probably died and he could have picked up the corpse for sweeties like Chuckles Green did with the late Orcs.

You are absolutely right, but I think with Vlad there is a huge ego to factor in. Remember those cringeworthy scenes when he was at the pink bus shelter shaking fans' hands etc? My guess, is that it was important to him to be seen as a saviour, the "big man", somebody they would worship because he stepped in. Consistent with that were his ridiculous delusions of grandeur. e.g Hertz winning the champions league within 3 years and so on. That might be why he didn't wait. Either way, there's no doubt they deserve each other, or the unhappy ending that still seems to be on the cards for both of them.

They were a vehicle for his banking ambitions, IMO. Spending mega-money on HMFC was an investment to get the bank exposure on a nationwide and Europe-wide stage. In comparison to the money he could've made, that would have been small change.

His big mistake, of course, was sacking Burley. They were running away with the League that year. Celtic were poor, and Rangers worse. If he had persevered with Burley, they might have won the League and had a direct entry into the CL. From then on, his plan may well have succeeded.

Shame, eh?
