Very good signing if true. Especially if Claros goes and the Deegan returning down south rumours are true.

'cos his associate broke Deegan's jaw

Woah, wait a minute, admins of hibs.net accusing others of making up stories.

He's not an "associate" so that's a lie.

I never made anything up so that's a lie

And even if I was an associate why would I want Deegan to leave? He's a good player for our club and was the victim of an unprovoked assault.

Bash on with your slandering though.

Would love to hear the main admin of here explaining why I would like it to happen though but like on the thread about Riordan and Garry getting over the top slating from hibs supporters and ignoring that to focus on other posts I expect the silence to be deafening.

This would be a very pleasant surprise if we signed LC - is this an acknowledgement from Pat that we need some strength/height on our left side of midfield I hope - I also hope this does mean we are close to signing Erskine too - who is an attacking/flair left sided player. My wee Thistle contact is away so can't find out

A right winger too please Pat if you don't mind :agree:

If we accept that every player we sign isn't going to be a superstar then it shouldn't be too hard to see why this would be a decent signing.

Good age, consistently decent performer in the SPL and 28 goals in 157 games for St Johnstone from midfield.

Seems a good signing to me.

Similar reaction to this as I had with Clancy....no frills, didn't set the pulse racing but in retrospect, a solid SPL player who will have more good games than bad. In other words, a vital cog in a finely tuned engine who we would appreciate more in his absence than we would whilst a regular. Good, solid signing imho.

According to Saints official site Craig has scored 36 goals in 185 games. Not bad for a midfielder. Plays central or left midfield and has also played left back. Six career goals against Hibs.

Good stats. Would seem to be a good signing, if indeed he has.

I am not disputing the truth or accuracy of the OP but it never fails to amaze me how this information leaks through to 'gossip forums' like this. The source is given as 'My tutor at college plays darts with his dad'. With all due respect to Mr Craig, you would expect a father to keep his mouth shut, especially in relation to passing acquaintences, about such private and important information about his son. I know that if I were in Liam Craig's situation, I would be pissed off with my old man if he was discussing my business with all and sundry. Unless of course the information is Tom Kite. :greengrin

"And Bully's Special Priiiiize..."
"Now the cash you won for charity earlier... that's safe."
"In you come, boys!"
"Super, smashing, great." (somewhat apocryphal - Bowen said 'smashing' as a reflex action after one contestant revealed that he'd been made unemployed)
"Iiiiiiin one..."
"You win nothing but your BFH... Bus Fare Home"
(into the ad break) "I've got £___ here and it'll take me two minutes to count out."
"...And the category's gone, so I can't ask the question!"
"All for the throw of a dart"
"Go for your lights" (in the prize board round - although this changed after a while. In other series, the lights represented what they had won)
"You've got the time it takes for the board to revolve..."
"Up to the oche - and listen to Tony!"
"You can't beat a bit of Bully!"
"Bully's bellowed you out there!"
"Let's check that with Bully" (for the spelling category)
"The subjects that are lit are the ones you can hit!"
Dave Spikey version:
"You've had a good night out - but you go home with nowt!"

None of the clubs or player are going to announce this probably as Hibs may be trying to get him during this window. May not happen of course but get the impression that this has happened as there has been no denial by Hibs. Will depend on whether St J's get someone else in to replace and Hibs offer a bit of cash or player also.

According to Saints official site Craig has scored 36 goals in 185 games. Not bad for a midfielder. Plays central or left midfield and has also played left back. Six career goals against Hibs.

Good stats. Would seem to be a good signing, if indeed he has.

Just to put that in perspective, Craigs scoring at a rate of 1 goal in 5 from midfield. Pat McGinlay scored 1 in 5, John O'Neil 1 in 8, John Collins
only 1 in 10 for Hibs. Latapy scored a goal every 4 games he played.
(Lewis Stevenson has a scoring rate of 1 in 138 but thats irrelevant to my general point :greengrin)

Its an excellent scoring rate :agree:

Transfer deadline day means sfa in terms of pre contract.

We might not hear from Hibs or SJ or the player about a pre contract.

Not duty bound to announce it.

Ritchie Brittain has signed a PCA with St J - they are trying to get him in this window (source - someone ITK!!) If they come to an arrangement with Ross County I think Craig will come to us in this window.

But as someone said in another thread don't suppose Ross County will let Brittain go to St J until RC have someone to replace him, LC won't be allowed to leave St J until they have someone to replace him etc. Although Ivan going up the road could be the catalyst.

I'm a bit surprised we've announced this now as, going by the club statement (and last sentence in particular), it looks like St J were not aware we were going public at this early stage.

Obviously we'll be starting negotiations with this for Jan release as LC's position with the St J fans will be similar to taxi hailer Caldwell's when he buggered off to Celtc but I just feel it's a bit unprofessional conducting business this way - it's very unlike us.

Anyway, probably looking into this too much and tin hat on :-) !

St Johnstone posted this (http://www.perthstjohnstonefc.co.uk/newsitemsdetail.php?param=2366) on twitter just three minutes after Hibs announced it on their twitter...I'd say there's a pretty good chance that the clubs had agreed to make it public?

And again, looking on twitter, Craig has been getting a load of nice messages from St Johnstone fans who say they are gutted to see him go but hope he does well. So seems a lot more amicable than the Hibs/Caldwell situation :greengrin

Id say its actually very professional and hard nosed. Going public has the effect of upsetting the SJ fans, and puts a bit of pressure on player and SJ Board to consider an early release sum.

It's happened to us a few times and about time we "played the system"

I do think that it is unfair however. Don't think pre contracts should be allowed when two teams in the same league are involved. However thems the rules and I think Craig will be a very good signing for us.

Despite concluding (on KB) that Liam Craig is garbage, their envy is almost palpable. Their propensity for reminding themselves that they cuffed us 1-5 is bordering on the pathetic and is fast becoming a tiny life-belt in an ocean of despair and looming mediocrity. They are even 'cooling' to the return of their beloved lost son, Scatchel, saying the signing restrictions are 'a blessing in disguise'.

Your fact is correct Sean, but as Scoopy said, lets leave this sort of chat to those across the road who are obsessed with this sort of thing.

I couldn't care how 'big' Hibs are compared to others. I care about our performances, league/cup results and financial health.

St johnstone are talking about knocking down a stand behind the far goals to make way for a road as this would make them more money. Now thats ambition.

Not any more. The new link road will somehow be squeezed between the stand and the Crematorium. I somehow suspect away fans might have to access the stand through tunnels below the road in future. Source? Planning Department at Perth and Kinross Council

We are Sean, however the point here is we shouldn't run around telling other clubs we are bigger than them.

It's just not cricket mate.

Correct. No sense in bleating about how big a club we are and then getting pumped next time we play them. The talking should be done on the pitch - always. Statistics are cold comfort if your team doesn't perform.

Exactly. :agree:

if it makes them more money which in turn strengthens the club and team then id say it was ambitious no? they certainly dont need 4 stands.

For the past few years and more, St Johnstone have been a well-run club playing in a good modern stadium of a size suited to their needs.

They've punched their weight on the pitch, too, which is more than Hibs have done recently.

And if Pitlochry Hibee's right, they aren't demolishing a stand at all.

It's neither courteous nor becoming to make like a Jambo by denigrating an SPL team that's actually been doing better than us given the resources at their disposal.

True enough.

Not sure how accurate it is, but PTS posted on here a while back that St J direct most of their income on cobbling together a 1st team squad and as such have no real youth setup or training facilities of their own. Overheads, which will be, fairly substantial for us.

They now have ex-Hibs youth coach Alastair Stevenson back there so would be surprised if that was the case.

We are by far and away a bigger club but right now we're no better than them where it really counts and that's on the football park. In my humble opinion of course.

Correct.

It sounds like they're just struggling to understand the difference between the words "bigger" and "better".

We are undoubtedly a far BIGGER club than St Johnstone, I don't think anyone could seriously argue that this is not the case. However unfortunately in recent years, we have been no BETTER than them. In fact they've been far better than us over the past couple of years.

I suppose that's the decision they've made, and it's been working reasonably well for them.

I think I'd rather have Hibs going the way they are, though.

I'm not quibbling about the respective size of the two clubs - stadium capacity, number of signed players, youth set-up, finance all make Hibs the bigger club. But the Hibs team hasn't been performing better than the Saints for quite a while now.

No training facilities?? What is that all weather pitch doing behind the main stand then, other than being a very good income stream for the Saintees?

Saints have always tended to do a lot of their training within the community. Stanley Bankfoot etc you can still see them doing their stamina runs in and around Perth. Something we lost as a result of EM. imo.

Head and shoulders above anything we had in the midfield last night which begs the question, why on earth did we not get him here in january? It was reported that St Johnstone were asking £60000 for him but I would have thought a decent offer of 45-50k would have been enough to tempt Saints. There was reportedly a last minute offer which was obviously way under their asking price and once again the failure to loosen the purse strings looks costing us dearly. With every league place worth around £80k ,an investment now could have been earned a lot more than 60k by securing a high league placing not to mention a possible run to the the cup final and maybe a European place. Instead Fenlon has brought in another couple of light weight midfield players, and not addressed the glaring deficiences that were so evident last night. I am not suggesting the club spend money recklessly just show a bit of ambition .
