I don't understand it. Presumably toothpaste comes out of a big vat of gloop. And yet it costs over £4 for a pump of Sensodyne.

That's the good stuff, admittedly.

But still. It's a cartel, I tell ye.

It's all in the marketing, I doubt sensodyne costs any more than other stuff but they'll charge that if people are happy to pay for it.

I tend to get anything that's on offer so rarely pay more than a pound. I'll go for Colgate MaxWhite (or whatever the one with the wee crystals is) if I can.

Boots usually have a 3 for 2 on. Periodically they'll be on offer at the supermarkets. I try not to pay four quid for one unit.

Anyone else have trouble with the pumps on Sensodyne toothpaste. They don't work half the time!

Give them a call and kick off, I'm sure they will send you one or two

That's a good point, they market it more as a medicinal-type product. I buy it too, cause of my wee sensitive gnashers, but it is a bit steep.

So are toilet rolls, while we're talking prices.

Toothbrushes, boxes of tissues.....it's a conspiracy!

Clever marketing and people will pay for what they think they are getting.

Same reason Panadol and Nurofen can charge £3+ for something with the same active ingredients as a supermarkets own brand that costs under 50p.

Gillette are the perfect example of introducing something new to the market and deliberately setting a high price point, it worked for them hence the cost of razors/blades which has been a "high price" risk success story and continues to be so.
