He played the second half of the season at Hibernian, having signed for six months, after turning down three-year contracts in Poland and Ukraine. "It was very risky, considering my knee," he says. "But I decided to go to Hibs, and literally for no money, because if I wanted to come back to England I had to take that step because the visibility [in Scotland] is much wider."

Literally no money.....Petrie must still have wet dreams about that sort of deal..:greengrin

Quite an interesting read in the Guardian. Apologies if this has already been posted. He seems like a really determined, hard working guy.

One thing which did puzzle me though is that he said he moved to Hibs "and for literally no money". Maybe it wasn't the money he was used to, but surely we were paying him a wage???

When a bog standard EPL player can expect to pick up 50 to 60K a week, then any money we were paying, was next to nothing.

even if we were paying him a grand a week it would still have been peanuts compared to what he was used to. needs to be tken in context i guess.

Yeah, that's how I read it initially. But then using the word 'literally' almost made it sound like he was playing for free. Maybe a bit of over-thinking on my part!! Still, I like him. I hope it continues to go well for him in England.

Not my experience I'm afraid. Sat next to him at a Hibs function and he was a total stroker.

Think it will just be the misuse of the word 'literally' which is becoming comical these days.

Probably the difference between The Hammers playing in the EPL or Championship this season.

I'm sure the vaz (majori)te of people including me would love a grand a week for doing literally nothing.

Appropriate as he contributed literally nothing.

Thought he scored a goal for Hibs but may be wrong

Yeah he scored once against Hearts. However, I think he does come across as a bit of an erse in this article.

Considering he got his move to the Championship after playing for us I found the tone of that quite disrespectful. I'm sure he wouldn't have been in the EPL right now if he'd been sitting on his arse for six months.
