I had the absolute pleasure of an audience with Mary Robinson last night, the former President of Ireland.

She gave the Dundee Christmas lecture at the University of Dundee last night and what a remarkable woman she is. Her transformative approach to the presidency of Ireland, her role as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and her current stance as an advocate for climate justice made for an incredibly engaging evening which packed out the entire lecture hall and overflow theatres.

I was incredibly fortunate to be able to speak with her afterwards and we discussed political reform, the troubles in Ireland and the potential for reignition of tension in light of recent events as well as the impacts of climate change on water resources, which is very closely linked to my doctoral research.

Her story was awesome and as a leading female political activist, she should be an inspiration to many who were present last night.

Sounds interesting. I've got "Everybody matters" in my bookcase somewhere and must get round to reading it. What did she make of the Union flag situation?
