Jump on train @ Crewe around 9.10 we get it from Preston @ 9.53. There is a 18.50 from Waverley probs back at for 10.00pm a lot less stress and usually cheaper! Me and my boy £28 return from Preston with rail card diesel around £70-80! Hope it helps!

Just booked my trains before seeing this thread, a lot easier, cheaper and hassle free than driving anyway. On the train that arrives at Waverley at 12:22 and then back on the 18:52. Only £24.10 return from Wigan albeit with a Railcard.

Have checked online and the same trains from Crewe are £36.50 (without a Railcard) if you're interested in that.
