As it says on the tin, the great chaser retired as of today. Was brought back into the stables and started training but Paul Nicholls and his owner felt it was time to call it a day.
Can't say I'm disappointed. Brilliant horse but because of the nature of steeplechasig and Kautos erratic jumping a comeback could have been needlessly risky. Considering his performance at Punchestown in 2010 to come back and win 2 more group 1s the way he did says it all about the horse.
His record is special and well known but here goes again:
Cost the bookies more than any other horse.
Only horse to regain the Gold Cup in 2009 after first winning it in 2007.

1 Ascot Chase
1 Aon Chase
2 Champion Chases.
Timeform rating of 191 bettered only by Arkle and FlyingBolt.
