BY the time this column appears, Edinburgh may have started on the road to recovery. They have much need to do so. Their performances against Saracens and Munster have been as poor as anything seen from a Scottish professional team since – well, since our last Six Nations match in Rome. There is no excuse – and, to the credit of the club’s spokesmen, none has been offered. They had, I thought, only one piece of bad luck in Limerick: when Greg Tonks’s huge kick from his own 22 flew and ran the length of the field and then trickled into touch-in-goal. With a different bounce there would have been an attacking line-out, a few metres from the Munster line. As it was, Munster had a scrum back where Tonks kicked and it was from this position that they set up their first try, which put them 16-0 up. At 0-9, with an attacking line-out, Edinburgh might have been able to force themselves back into the game.
