Interesting part about racism being "at the heart" of Government policy and the ability of the racist views of some people in power to "trickle" through society.

No, he's not. I suppose I'd liken it to the south park creators, who aren't racist either.

I doubt he's racist, although his claim that he was "pretending" to be someone with racist views may backfire, as by doing so the Mirror may have reasonably concluded that he was indeed racist. I also doubt that the UK Government is racist and his claims in that regard seem somewhere between irrelevant and another own goal.

He's no more racist than the creators of South Park, the Black and White Minstrels, Jim Davidson or Walt Disney. It's only entertainment after all.
would probably need to see footage of the clip that is being referred to to form an opinion

I've never seen him being racist and I've watched a lot of his stuff. No doubt he tries to be controversial and shock folk but definitely not racist.

He seems to be offensive to people from all walks of life and I've never noticed him being particularly racist.
I went to see him last year and was pretty disappointed. His one-liners are great for Mock the Week but after an hour of the same thing I was getting bored.

Whether or not jim Davidson is a racist, and I reckon he is, shouldn't detract from the fact that he is a complete ****er.

Frankie Boyle may or may not be a racist - that's open to interpretation - but one thing he most definitely is is an unfunny, insulting waste of DNA.

I don't believe he's racist but his acts very limited and as such hes having to be more and more 'outrageous' to try and raise a laugh. The tabaloids will love to be offended by that.

Is that no like, racist :dunno:. Are weegies even a race? Is that no like calling someone from Pakistan a, well you know the rest. I get confused at times. I couldn't care less if he's racist or not TBH. Whether people agree with it or not, what happened to free speech and all that?

Whether he is a racist or not is a matter of interpretation, I think he is quite amusing, although Tramadol Nights was pish!

I've no idea what the paper is referring to so I cannot comment, but it is certainly possible to have a laugh at a person's/group's expense without being prejudiced against them. I used to find Frankie Boyle very funny indeed, but he seems to have now lost the plot by coming up with more and more offensive things to say, as opposed to writing material that is extremely funny and extremely edgy.
He should have stayed on Mock The Week, the confines of the show suited him, and the show was only watcheable when he was on it - it's dreadful now, IMO (or was when I last watched it, which was ages ago).

He's not racist, he's just a very naughty boy. :greengrin
Not my taste in comedians I'm afraid. There are plenty out there much funnier than him who don't cause offense.

He said he had created a racist character at one point.
So is Steve Coogan homophobic?
Is David Walliams racist?
No, but it's something for the Daily Express to say about a 'left wing' Scotsman

For example......
Terry "I haven't got much time for the Irish or the Welsh, and the Scots are worse than the Koreans".
Bob "And you never could stand southerners".
Terry "To tell you the truth I don't much like anyone outside this town. And there aren't many families down our street that I can stand".

I think if you looked at the scripts on any sitcom from that time you would find stuff that simply wouldn't be acceptable today. Love thy Neighbour was considered mainstream family fun back then.

I don't think it was racist. It was more an insight into the mind of Terry Collier - IIRC it was really about self deprecation. I can't remember exactly, but I think it ended up with him saying he didn't even like himself very much. :greengrin
Love Thy Neighbour claimed to be in the same spirit as Till Death Us Do Part. Namely the joke was on the racist. However, it played on racial tensions, and a lot of people didn't get the "irony". Personally, I think it actually perpetuated racism by making out black people didn't mind being called "Sambo", because they could always laugh it off by calling the other guy a "white honkey". I'm not sure if it ever worked when confronted by the SPG.

Possibly. It's an exchange that jarred a bit with me though probably only in recent years. Still one of my favourite sitcoms though.

Frankie Boyle has won his libel case against the Mirror. £50000 in damages reportedly.
They have still to rule on whether the report that he was "forced to quit" Mock the Week was accurate.
