View Full Version : Deegan out with broken jaw

Bumped into a mate who works on the door at Shanghai, told me there was a wee bust up inside with young Hibs and Hearts players, which came to nothing, no senior players involved. The Hibs senior players were all good an left gradually one by one from 12am onwards, Deegan was standing outside near Hardrock in the taxi queue, about 15 ft from 2 policemen, when a random came along, punched him and ran away all in one.
He didn't know if it was footie related, just looked like a random, no reason attack, he did say Deegan is a really nice bloke, fairly well built but in general all players were in good order and just out for a good night.
That cannae be right. I've been assured in an earlier post that they were all steaming.

They did well to make a story out of that. complete guesswork.
Should have read more than the link title and first paragraph before posting :greengrin

Yes they were steaming but on good behaviour.
I'm suprised nobody's suggested a Hibs.net night out on George Street yet.
(Disclaimer: I'll more than likely be in a sorry state come chucking out time, but that's allowed as like the players I'm allowed a mad one after a week at work)
Next time a hearts player tweets that he's at a "bonding session" in George Street I'll be up for one within minutes!
:greengrin
I don't believe the whole "random" element to the attack on Deegan. They'd been out for hours and been on twitter telling the whole world where they were.
People can wait for ages to get a taxi after 3am and George Street is a place where frustrations grow, arguments develop and punches are thrown. Totally unprovoked and random attacks do happen but not usually without an exchange first.
He plays in a two-team city and has recently tweeted things that would upset a lot of people that are looking for an excuse to vent their hatred of all things Irish and catholic.
I'm sorry but to me he's a sitting duck at that time, police or not. The hundreds of police and stewards inside Tynecastle done nothing to stop one of them attacking Neil Lennon so why should two officers be any deterrent at throwing out time on George Street.
We know these things shouldn't happen and it's out of order but lets get real. That's where and when a lot of trouble happens and well known faces such as footballers are presenting themselves to the madness.

Tin hat firmly on here but anyone else a little irritated by this tweet from Leigh yesterday?

I find that irritating. There's no need for so many hashtags in one tweet.

Do I hear all those who were jumping to theworst of all possible conclusions lining up to admit they were all dead wrong?
Seems to have been an entirely sensible night out after a good win.
:agree:
And being allowed out as a wee reward for starting the season well, given that its two weeks till their next game.
I dont see that Hibs or their players have done much wrong here.

No, he has the weekend off, he's entitled to enjoy himself!

So the head doorman of the club, outside clearing away the punters etc, sees the attack, says the guy just runs up, smashes him in the jaw and carries on running, 15ft from the police and that's nnot random, have a word with yourself. Whether he knew who Deegan was or not not, there was absolutely no trouble from any Hibs player, they were all in good spirits, drunk yes but just like any other lads night out. He's standing in the queue for a taxi with many other revellers, a queue you've probably stood in yourself at that time in the morning, so nothing untowards there.
Would you say Deegan was a well known face, must admit, I've seen his 3 times playing and would be hard to spot him as who he was, everyone knows Sparky, McPake etc but I'd find it hard to spot Deegan in a crowd of people, he's not that well known yet.
I was picking up at the other end of George St last sunday morning at that time, yes it's fairly busy but to be honest, there aint much trouble, more trouble up Lothian Rd and near the Cav, where all the kids are.

Making it public on a social website what he is doing this weekend only a few days after a team mate was attacked in the town= Stupid.
Been on Twitter = stupid.

Doesn't invalidate the original point... Deegan might have had words with some moron earlier... said moron decides to wait for him outside the club waiting for a taxi and takes his chance. All speculation, mind.
As I said earlier I feel sorry for Deegan as it does sound very much like he was the innocent party, but he put himself in a high risk situation. Even something as simple as ordering a cab on account could have avoided this mess.

As I said, was told all players behaved impeccably, no words with anyone or any signs of problems, McPake left half an hour before him and nothing happened, funny how it happened when all punters in the club were on the streets. was he picked out or was he just a random victim of a d1ckhead, who knows, truth is no matter who it is it's bang out of order. No one knows if the guy was waiting or not but to do it 15 ft from two coppers, shows he didn't give a flying one and did it anyway.
So to leave a club is now high risk, god help us all then, what if he doesn't have an account with a taxi firm, what then:confused: I don't have an account but when I go up town occasionally, I either get a taxi in the street or phone a taxi company ( preferably Central Taxis :greengrin )

Someone who works in the club the players were in stated in an earlier post that the attacker had tried to get into the club earlier but was refused entry so he couldn't have had words with deegan

I doubt they were in the same place all night, there may have been words exchanged earlier on in the night for all we know at another club/pub in the town.

I'm not saying he doesn't. Tweeting that you basically can't wait to get pished again, days after a teammate's jaw was broken on a night out, where the team were out drinking until 3 in the morning doesn't read well.

Nando's, 3 of them in Edinburgh..................Race night, no mention as to where...................Town/hangover, may not be in the centre, towns a big place, may be Stockbridge etc

I can see trouble following on from this.
If the coward gets caught and it turns out to be a Yam I can see tit for tat revenge.
Six Jambos taken out say and then it would be unsafe for any player to be out on the town.
I'm surprised no one has been arrested for this yet and even more surprised the Police haven't released pictures of the CCTV footage of the people they have described, sort of Crimewatch type thing.
I hope the swine gets caught and gets time, its the only real deterrant.

:agree:
If it was one of THEM who carried out the assault and he knew exactly what he was doing, then I'm sure that the fair minded majority of their 420,000 supporters will be equally disgusted by the attack. And yes, unfortunately the tit for tat revenge attack could be just around the corner and I'm sure the Police will be aware of the possibility so let's hope that the culprit is caught.

After seeing Tom run from the post office with a bag of cash and the alarm going off.
Ted: You aren't up to your old tricks again are you Tom?
Tom: No. It's my money father. I just didn't want to fill out the forms.

The Police don't routinely release CCTV footage of what is basically just another assault related to the night time economy in Edinburgh. They will be using their own intelligence sources to try and identify the assailant first.
