You know the moment, a sudden feeling of awakening to a place an action or both. The brief jolt, that strange frisson of "what am I doing here and how the........"

I think mine came when I found myself dangling high in a theatre roof sprinkling fake ash over a group of naked men far below in a scene from a production of the musical Cabaret. Just how did that happen!

Sitting in a social club on a Saturday night, playing bingo, whilst someone from Fathell Lanarkshire delivered tunes such as The Walk of Life from a mobile Karaoke set. Then in walks some guy called China and starts singing Yam songs out of tune, and everyone around me laughs and says that he is quite a character.

Suddenly it's pointed out to me that I am sitting in someone's seat, although they have arrived an hour and a half after me. All it would have taken was someone to mention Dire Straits are for all ages, and I'd have found out where I could buy skag - not to resume an addiction, but to start one.
