Never been to either of those areas but would definitely recommend Riviera Maya - although I suppose it depends on what type of holiday you are looking for.

Been to Playa Del Carmen, you won't go far wrong with the Riu hotels. :aok:

I think there are 3 or 4 to choose from, all but 1 (The Tequilia) are located bang on the beach. :agree:

If you stay in any of the Riu complex's you get access to the others (so you have a variety of entertainment options).
