Evra tried to shake hands with him the last time and was completely ignored. I don't know why he's being scrutinised today by the media and the commentators.

Completely ridiculous to have handshakes before the game anyway. Time it got scrapped.

Come on United! :aok:

agree with that, a total nonsense shaking hands(other than a cup final), won't be long before the national anthems for each participating player in both teams will be played before K.O.'s

Really?

Is the drama of Terry/Ferdinand/Evra/Suarez really that important to take out a gesture of good sportsmanship that takes what, 2 minutes out of the afternoon?

You've been listening to Alan Green too much!

I feel it should be scrapped as well they shake hands after the game, there's no point before hand you would expect grown men in the same profesion to have some degree of respect for each other without having to shake hands before every game they play, a simple well done or good game at the final whistle is enough for me

Weird one, it just 'looked' a penalty, but aside from a push in the back after Valencia started to fall you'd struggle to say why it was a penalty. Looked like a combination of lost balance and realising he might have blown his chance.

It was not two footed. Showed his studs as he went in. Shelvey followed through after going over the ball. Big difference between the two fouls

You've been listening to Alan Green too much!

Nope, can't stand Alan Green, far too opinionated and I think he generally talks a lot of garbage, however if that's what he's saying on this issue then I totally agree with him.

I know you'll now probably come back to me with a few examples after saying this but I'm not aware of any other sport where the players shake hands BEFORE the game has taken place.

You mention sportsmanship but, for me, good sportsmanship is when you can play hard against your opponent for 90 minutes (or however long each particular sport lasts for) and then at the end of the game you can shake hands with them and respect the fact that you have both played the game in the correct spirit and that you respect the effort you have both put in.

For me, shaking hands before a game means next to nothing and is just a gimmick that has been brought in by the authorities in recent years under the banner of "fair play" and causes far more problems than it is worth.

And it has nothing to do with the Ferdinand/Terry and Suarez/Evra episodes either. I have held that opinion long before these incidents occurred.

Saw the first half and the last 20 minutes or so of the second half.

United were terrible in the first half, never got going at all and really struggled to even get out of their own half.

Better second half from them and coming back to win from a goal down, particularly away at a ground that you've not won at in five years, is always good. Far from their best at the moment though and they can only get better.
