What is the purpose of them, what do they do. Well in the Scottish game anyway. I have been watching them closely for a while now and cannot see that they add anything to the gane at all. In England they appear to be able to make independent calls - offside, which way a throw goes, foul etc. In Scotland there is none of that, a linesman never raises his flag until the Ref has blown and decided which way the call goes.
Perhaps i'm missing something but this doesn't do an awful lot for confidence in the refereeing team.
One thing is absolutely for certain we need a major overhaul of our referees and their training.
