Bradley Wiggins is favourite, but Murray must have soared up the field after last night.
Pity he doesn't have much of a personality, in public at least.

Not every winner does though...
For me his (Andy Murray's) is the outstanding achievement - given the history of British men's tennis and all.
If it is personality and achievement though then it is Mo Farah for me.

I think Murray will just edge it, tough choice this year though.

Very tough choice, how about Chris Hoy?
They should just give it to British Sport as a whole

Murray
Farah
Ennis
Wiggins
Froch
McIlroy
Hoy
Weir
Storey
Every single one of them plus a few others I've probably forgot have a pretty good claim. Between Wiggins and Murray though imo.

after last night, the olympic Gold and getting to the Wimbledon Final i think Murray has the edge but no doubt Wiggans and Farrah are right up there. Any of the other guys would probably have won it in quieter years :greengrin

i can't see the odds at work but I think Murray should be the fave.
I also think that is the single greatest sporting achievement by any Scot! :agree:
I don't usually vote in the BBC SPOTY but will be voting for Murray this year

Can 'TeamGB' win team of the year? Or does it have to be a football, rugby, cricket etc team?
Would love to see Chelsea get bumped out of it despite winning the Champions League.

Murray should win it but I think the bitterness from some down South that stems from his "anyone but England" will mean he comes in second, after Wiggins.

I wonder how many votes Wigginswould get north of the border, if he had ever said 'anyone but Scotland'?

None from the folk that take themselves or their national pride too seriously. Hopefully, the rest of us would be a bit more relaxed about the whole thing.

I'd like to see Wiggins get it, but the fact that tennis is a more popular sport in the UK means I'm expecting Murray to do so. Either is a very deserving choice. The problem with the various Olympians and Paralympians is that each has a similar achievement to commend them. Our first ever TdF winner and first men's slam winner in 76 years both have those individual landmarks on top of Olympic gold.

Ennis because she's very popular outside sport as well. She's a star!
I think Andy has a great personality and a sardonic sense of humour which I'm sure we'll hear more of in future years.

I think Jessica Ennis is a dark horse and could well win it, very popular and does have a bit of personality.
Wouldn't begrudge it to any of the aforementioned people though, and would love to see andy Murray win it
