Ex Newcastle United CEO has passed away after a short battle against cancer.

He was the one that brought Kevin Keegan to the Toon and his philosophy was that he always wanted the team to play "opn, attractive, exciting and attacking football".

They certainly did that in the mid 90s and it's the most exciting English team I have ever watched. I loved going to the games to watch them rip apart teams week-in-week out.

Highlight was the 5-0 demolition of Man Utd and Philipe Albert scoring the cheekiest goal past Schmeichel.

Anyway, sad times. A visionary that knew what the fans wanted and got the commercial income in to fund it.

It was a privilege to know the man and work for him.

RIP Freddie - I hope there are others out there that share your philosophy and drive to change Scottish football like you changed Newcastle United?
