Gutted he lost his appeal, but relieved he's now at peace. Sad sad story. RIP Tony

RIP. He's definitely earned it.

I think his comments prior to his death underline just how difficult a topic this is for many people.

Horribly sad story. The debate about right to die has been had many times on here and this thread isn't the time or place to go over it again. A terribly complex moral issue.

I'm sure no one on either side of the debate would argue that Tony Nicklinson isn't a very brave man. Hopefully he's at some kind of peace now.

Brought a tear to my eye after seeing a picture of him after he lost the appeal and I normally don't get drawn into stories like this.

It's unfortunate he's not been allowed to die, exceptional circumstances like this should have provisions to allow someone to die with assistance.

Am I correct in saying there's a religious element that has caused the law to be set up in relation to suicide and that's why you can't take your own life, or attempt to, without prosecution?

I know it's a different circumstance but something I've wondered.

Back on topic, the thing that struck me most was his wife's point about having to go to Switzerland to die in a warehouse on an industrial estate if they wanted to do it legally.

I've got personal experience of this from both sides of the argument. It's a terribly complex subject. Anyone wanting to know more might like to look at the case of Tony Bland. Glad Mr Nicklinson's torment is over.
