The gig itself was hugely entertaining. It could have gone on for hours. The host was Irvine Welsh, so there was a lot of "shared experience".

I'll check if hes doing other nights. What struck me reading the book was how 'disco' music, loosely defined, had a kind of clean cut, slightly nerdy image in the late 70s early 80s, but the apparent reality was they were partying harder and were more degenerate with that whole club 54 scene than anyone else!

He was surely a massive influence on the acid house/rave scene as well.

He's not. It was a one-off.

As for the influence, that is undoubted. He was classically-trained, as you will know from the book, so the songs were musically very complex. I hated disco with a passion at the time (it was the late 70's, of course, when punk rooled), but in hindsight his influence was immense.

He even claimed last night to have influenced Radio Clash..... :cb (I'm listening to it just now, and have to grudgingly admit that he's probably right.!)

:agree: i'm the same. If you'd have told me twenty or thirty years ago that id have developed a love of disco and The Trammps 'Disco Inferno' was a regular playlist favourite, id have laughed in your face, man :greengrin:
