Interesting story in tonight's paper.

What gets me about this lady going public is that she can say what she wants about the NHS, but they can't reply. I am surprised that the girl's lawyer did not raise her "mental illness" as part of the defence. You would think that would be something they would have wanted assessed.

Most mad people don't commit crimes. However, a lot of criminals use madness as an excuse.

It would also be nice to show some balance by speaking about the victims here. Like I say,it's an unfortunate part of journalism that we get the "highlights" and maybe sometimes the fine detail is missed, showing people in an unfair light.

I'd like to make it clear that I don't know anyone connected with this story. I am not commenting on their health, morality or lifestyle. I am posting from an interest in the way that the media can misrepresent issues by focussing on particular parts of a story. I don't think there was any malice in the story.

Chances are the mental health issues WERE assessed prior to sentencing...just not reported here.

I wonder if the article would have read the same way, if they had mentioned this (assuming it to be the case).
